As part of its effort to embrace Apple's latest chips, Capcom today released Resident Evil 7 biohazard for iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPads and Macs with M-series Apple silicon chips. [App Store]

The game runs natively on Apple silicon with support for cross-progression and universal purchase, letting Apple users play the game across iPhone, iPad, and Mac with a single purchase and transfer their saved games between devices.

Capcom notes that the iPhone and iPad version of Resident Evil 7 biohazard includes enhanced controls with a new Auto Fire option to assist with touchscreen usability. Hardware controller support is also included for those who want a more console-like experience.

In addition to the main Resident Evil 7 biohazard game, the download also includes the Not A Hero DLC add-on, and a Gold Edition upgrade is available with additional DLC content.

The game is a free download that allows for a portion of the game to be played free of charge, with the full main unlock priced at $19.99. The Gold Edition DLC upgrade costs an additional $20.00.

Resident Evil 7 biohazard joins Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village as titles from the series available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPad, and Mac, with Resident Evil 2 also in development.

Thanks. I’ll check it out. Funny thing is, I was just playing Resident Evil Village using my Apple Vision Pro.

It's kinda disappointing that Resident Evil 7 was basically Capcom's first foray into VR on PS4, and it has basically never seen a VR release since then.

PSVR2, SteamVR, and Vision Pro VR would be a pretty awesome DLC release, let alone a free update.

For those who haven't played it, its a flippin brilliant game.
Played it on my PS4 with VR (had to stop playing it with VR due to a shortage of underwear) and went thru all the DLCs.

So if you haven't played it, do..:)

If possible, stream it to a bigger screen.
RE2 that's in development are a brilliant update too along with RE3.

I wonder if there aren't an Apple TV that will support these games just around the corner waiting to be released :)

You're braver than I am! Love that game, but I don't think I have nearly enough courage to try it in VR
1. This is a seven year old game. I played it years ago. I want CURRENT gen games for my Mac. Day & date with pc counterparts.

2. I'll complain all I want to. You don't like it, skip over the comments & ignore.

Does it matter how old it is? It's not exactly Pong. RE7 is still an excellent game and the franchise hasn't released a newer game that replaces it for what it offers (i.e. 7 was a return to the RE straight up survival horror game roots, and the newer Village game brings in more of the shooting action), so it doesn't feel outdated by any stretch.

Perhaps there's good reason they're doing older games too, like cost or ease of development. If it's a case of "they have to start somewhere and will expand resources if the market wants it" then we need to show it's wanted. It's not like they're charging £50, you're getting an excellent game for less than a night at the cinema.

I think the biggest problem is the Apple silicon devices don’t have enough graphical power, except for the pro’s/ Max which are too niche for devs to be bothered as they won’t sell much volumes

If gaming does ever become a thing on Mac I think this is the way : build up a library of popular older games and make your way closer to current times as the chips getcmore powerful and as games on ARM become more a thing on Windows too

Until that happens, this is going to be it I’m afraid

Go get the Ubisoft games when they arrive.

I was a huge fan of Resident Evil when it launched on PS1, and that fandom continued unabated all the way through Code Veronica (and still does to this day). But when Resident Evil 4 dropped and it was a completely different game, I was out. It was clear to me then that real RE was dead. Now, even more so. There is nothing "Resident Evil" about any of these new games other than the name and some of the characters and references. Absolutely nothing.

No, the problem is no one in Apple management understands games. With the exception of the IAP crapfests on mobile.

Don’t complain that we don’t have games on Mac then if you refuse to buy it.

As an apple user, it's Cook's duty to me, the -ing customer, to have modern games running on their platform. It is not my duty to buy anything they deem to sell me just because they think they did me a favour.

universal purchase

It's not an universal purchase. The universal purchase would be on Steam if you got the Windows build too.

Hint: Baldur's Gate 3 gives you Windows, Mac and Linux on Steam for one price. Larian respects their customers. Did you see Apple promoting this game? No, they prefer to go for app store exclusives which no gamer with a brain will buy.

Day and day is going to be years from now. [easy 10-15 years] We have been lucky with Baldurs Gate III and AC Shadow launching day and date.

The main issues boils down to the game porting toolkit [the new toolkit Ver 2.0 solves a-lot of issues]. The second is that Apple is a niche platform. Gamers and Devs trust Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Steam as its the sole gateway since the 90s.
Not to mention ARM SOC gaming is just getting momentum between Mac & Windows.

Apple Silicon starting with the M1 is very graphically powerful. There is plenty of YT video's proving that the M1 macbook Air can still pack a punch. [if optimized correctly]

Apple's focus on the iPhone is smart, given that the iPhone sells 100x more than Macs & iPads do. Apple needs to put more focus more on cooling and performance. Hopefully the A18 Pro fixes that.
