I think the biggest problem is the Apple silicon devices don’t have enough graphical power, except for the pro’s/ Max which are too niche for devs to be bothered as they won’t sell much volumes

If gaming does ever become a thing on Mac I think this is the way : build up a library of popular older games and make your way closer to current times as the chips getcmore powerful and as games on ARM become more a thing on Windows too

Until that happens, this is going to be it I’m afraid
I think you’re missing the point: Apple’s latest hardware is offering ray-tracing & shaders that rival the latest consoles. Yes it’s the new high end stuff, but from here on out all of Apple’s gear is going to support that… 😉

The other thing to remember is that ALL of these RE games that are being ported to Apple Silicon devices run RE Engine, Capcom's proprietary game engine that seems to be well suited for running with Metal and taking advantage of the graphic's technology that Apple Silicon provides.

It makes sense for them to continuing bringing over their games that run in RE engine, even if they're 7 years old.
Perhaps they'll bring over Street Fighter 6 when they're done porting RE games

There's something ironic about the forum simultaneously getting excited about emulators to play games that are decades old, and getting upset that a 7 year old game is too old.

That's a really really good point. We need to be excited that big companies like Capcom are bringing native ports of games to our platform of choice, especially if we want more gaming options on these platforms.

Ports of 7 year old games, new games, emulators, all these things are important to build up an ecosystem and promote the platform as a viable gaming option for other companies.

I suspect that people are cheap, especially after buying Apple hardware to show off like a symbol of their status in society.

Nope. M3 MBP plays just fine, Death Stranding, Grid Legends, Assetto Corsa, City Skylines - all working well for me.

That's the same price you normally pay for that seven year old game on every other platform.*

(*It's just that the game is on a massive sale on these other platforms about every other week.)
Not to mention how the price compares to buying these games on console.

if City Skylines II works on Mac better then the windows version, i'm buying ASAP.
I do miss the days I used my iMac for gaming via bootcamp. Was the best of both worlds. Windows and MacOS in one device, ability to game in a decent enough way.

Would be even better now with my iPad Pro and universal control + the iMac with bootcamp

I don't disagree, but upgrading the MBA from the base configuration to something more gaming friendly (16/521) is £400 -- which is more expensive than just getting a PS5.

Gaming on a Mac really only works out if you need a more powerful machine regardless. Upgrading for gaming makes no sense as there just aren't enough native games to make it worth it.

Yes, absolutely. I also think it's really cool what Apple is trying to do in terms of playing across Mac, iPhone and iPad.

That being said, gaming is the one area where the lack of third party stores is really annoying. I want Steam on my iPhone and play it together with my gaming PC or the Steam Deck.

Personally I'm unlikely to buy a AAA game on the App Store.

I wonder if the iPhone port will be another worthless, lazy, bug filled port like RE Village, that didn't bother to adapt the controls for the small screen...

Sounds like Apple needs to release a M1 version of Lemmings or Myst Island :p

Care to explain the angry face, @kostthem ? Were you a fan of that game that thought the controls were good on iPhone, or are you angry at Capcom for the lack of adaptation of the controls?

This game recommends playing with a controller. As it is mentioned more than once.

”The developer, Capcom designed this game to be played with a controller.“. If your trying to play with the touch screen, your getting a horrible experience.

What kind of dimwit would buy a game that needs a controller to use, only to play it on a tiny screen? Surely the only advantage of the phone is the ability to play games on the go? Unless your pockets are large enough for a controller too, it makes no sense.

Edit: Plus, reviews of Resident Evil Village on the iPhone said the controller experience was also a laggy mess when they tried it.

I played it last night on my M3 pro MacBook Pro, so far so good. One annoying (I think) bug is that I get a double mouse cursor, where on my laptop screen the mouse is still active on that screen, where I can accidentally open another app whilst playing RE7 on my external monitor.

@hovscorpion12 If you didn't believe me about the lag issue if you try to use a controller, do a quick Google:
