My new Mac Pro 2008 is now doing the occasional reboot on wake from sleep.

Called Apple today. The nice lady said.

This is a known problem.
Engineering is working on it.
It is a software problem.
My name is now on a list to get an email as soon as a fix is available.
She did not recommend that I try to fix it myself in any way.
Sorry but please work around the issue for now.

OK, I can live with this minor issue for now.

Interesting. When I spoke to Apple I was quickly transferred
to level two. They also said it was a known problem and the
machine would have to be repaired. Naturally, I asked for a
replacement instead. I'd be pretty annoyed if it turned out to
be a software problem because the replacement I have now
seems to be faulty.

Weird. Worrying.

I should receive a new machine by the 13th as my HD died. I hope the new machine doesn't have this problem...

Where (i.e. which country) was this nice lady? The nice gent here in Apple UK/Ireland knew nothing about it and just told me to do the usual non-specific Apple-fixing type things (PRAM, re-install etc etc). Great if it is only a software problem, though. My Mac is 2 days old and I've just finished re-installing all my software.... Would hate to have to send it back and wait for a new one...The issue itself is minor if it can be solved by software.

has anyone received a 'repaired' machine back from Lemon yet? Can you say the problem was definately fixed or did they just give you another dud?

I've had my machine for a couple of weeks now, and it just started having the sleep problem this weekend.

If your hardware is defective, I would recommend returning it. I had this issue and returned it to Apple. My replacement will arrive on Monday.

The fact that there are users NOT experiencing the reboot after sleep problem leads me to believe it's a hardware issue.

Keep us posted.

Well, that's not very good logic. We all use our computers very differently, the "fact" that I only experience the problem in OS X makes me believe it's software related.

I have a Focusrite FW Audio Interface and a MyBook 500GB external drive FW 800.

My bet is that this is related to firewire .... the bane of every mac I've owned.

The two week repair policy is just insane. Who spends $4k on a computer but can afford to be without it for 2 weeks. Mac **PRO**, hence, I pay for my computer using my computer!?!@?#@

Apple, I love you and hate you.

In the meantime, my Mac Pro will be just as sleepless as it's owner.

I think if the computer was rebooting at every wake, I'd ask for an exchange if within the first 14 days. My new 2008 Mac Pro did it twice, but I had mistakenly chose the hd in the 2nd bay as my boot drive. I changed it to bay 1 and haven't experienced the problem since. I don't know if this made the difference or not. When I wake it up, the fans do start and then stop once the screen appears. The time to wake does fluctuate somewhat for reasons unknown.
