I might start a new thread asking what people do with their JB iphone.

I am an IT admin, and I mainly use it for RDP and VNC over VPN and a it of twitter and alot of email.

As an "IT admin," you should really spend more time with the jailbreak. If anything, somebody with your skillset should be able to really take advantage of it. Do some more homework, you might be surprised what you can do with your phone.

I might have another go after my parents go home on Sunday.

My iPhone is insured through a third party agent, so if it won't be repaired by apple, I will still be able to get it replaced.

To clarify "iphonegeek", if my iphone is deemed unable to be repaired by Apple for voided warranty or out of warranty, I have a 2 year insurance plan for my iPhone that covers it for any damage, theft or loss provided the damage isn't caused by feral animals and I don't get it stolen by leaving it in an unlocked car at night.

I just got my iphone replaced yesterday and they ran the behavior scan and nothing popped up. I had mine jailbroken with spirit. I dropped it and it had major scratches. I restored from new I said phone keeps rebooting and wala!! New iphone. Bought a new case and anti-glare screen protector and now im good to go. (re-jailbraking now..lol)

Yes, please do. Because we don't have enough of those effing threads here that you can't do a simple search to find...

Thanks for the snide remarks.

I was looking for things that might appeal specifically to my situation.

I had searched and not found any comprehensive data to support my use, so was asking specifically what JB'ing benefits can do for an IT admin.

So, as you might have seen, I did start a thread, and got smart crap like your post, but a couple of people were actually helpful.

Thanks for the lazy position with regards to finding information. :)

If you had said, "I've searched through threads here and found X information but I'm looking more for Y, what soupy guys think?" folks would be more inclined to offer assistance. Perhaps next time seeking lessfor someone to hold your hand and instead to supplimet what you have found, would help the community as a whole. :)

Thanks for not reading anything but what you wanted.

I had said, I found nothing that really supported my needs as an IT admin, so I was asking what people used it for in IT admin roles or similar.

I initially started a broad query, but narrowed it down, and yes, I did get more help after I got more detailed. So thank you for offering advice like an absolute tool in this matter.

Instead of trying to be condescending to someone just because they joined after you and didn't ask the exact question you wanted to answer, try offering advice like; "Hey man, try and be a bit more specific about what you want." or "Yea, I did X but you might find Y more valuable for your situation."

Now that I know I have to ask for exactly what info I want, I might as well spend the hours needed to find it instead of trying to find someone friendly enough to link some useful info or type a couple of paragraphs.

Thanks for not taking my words seriously. By the looks of it, we'll see you around more I suppose.

That is a bit concerning, I used the spirit jailbreak, and then restored about 30 seconds later as I couldn't find anything I wanted to do with the jailbreak.

Lucky I got my iPhone insured so I can get it replaced if it breaks and Apple won't replace it because I jailbroke it for a minute.

I too used spirit jailbreak, and after jailbreaking was going to restore it because I didn't think the jailbreak would be useful. 2 weeks later I love the jailbreak. I have a custom theme and use mywi (For my 2 son's Ipads when in the car travelling) often as well as backgrounder to multi task. The more you look into what is available, the more you will like it.
I posted my screen shot of home screen theme below.

If you are the type of person that enjoys getting into files and changing things around to vreate custom themes, then it is a blast. I was going to get the new Iphone 4g( or whatever it's called) when it comes out, but will absolutely wait until a jailbreak is available for it before I even think about upgrading.

What? I've taken numerous phones in that were previously jailbroken and subsequently restored and never had an issue with geniuses claiming they found third party apps on the phone. Either this is a recent revelation, or the story is BS. I know last September when i had a my last replacement, i had nk issue.

I've had to return one of or families iPhones that was jailbroken, yes restored as a new phone and didn't have this problem.
On the other hand I've had conversations with Genius Bar staff our favorite jailbreak apps..........

posted from a jailbroken iPad

What the Genius will do is grab your wrist with an iron grip, stare right into your eyes with the burning intensity of Steve Jobs himself, and ask, "Have you ever jailbroken this phone?"

Everyone wilts under the pressure. Everyone.

What they do is run a behavior scan. If at the moment your iPhone is jailbroken, then it will find the third party app. You must of some how still had the phone jailbroken when taking it to apple. My boy works at the 5 ave store in NY and this is what he told me. Btw his iPhone is jailbroken and most of the staff there do too.

Me, and you know why?

Because every thread on every forum I have found goes like this with JB Threads;

Q: What is the benefit of Jailbreaking and what can I do with it?

Answer 1: Sorry, Jailbreaking is naughty, thread locked.

Answer 2: HAHAHA N00bz0r you are teh suxz0r you don't even know, and we sure as hell won't tell you!

So, in short, I tried it to see if it was worth while, then found I can do all I need with the current OS the way it is.

And those doubting the ability to do anything in 30 seconds, well yes, it was an exageration on my part, I played for a couple of minutes, didn't find anything through Cydia that I couldn't already do with a non JB phone (that I actually cared about).

dude...

custom themes - so you're phone doesnt look and sound exactly the same as your other 6 friends with iphones.

quick reply - so you dont have to leave the app ur currently on to reply to a text.

backgrounder - REAL multitasking!

live clock - so ur clock icon actually tells u the time and is not retardedly stuck at 10:15

infinidock - u can scroll the dock and the option to have more than 4 apps on the dock

categories - apple is a little late with folders for apps

video wallpaper - cool as hell, i have the matrix background
photofh.jpg

p.s. call ID fake - a genius app, it changes ur caller ID to whatever number you want, perfect for prank calling, or if someone is avoiding ur calls.

I use terminal all the time.. Although "old school", I use ping, telnet, tracerout, etc etc. There are a ton of other useful commands as well, just like command prompt.
Hopefully, we will be able to get the accessories that the iPad has to be compatible with the iPhone. I would love to see a ethernet adapter, or serial adapter. Would be amazing to program cisco routers, or have the ability to log in statically to a network via ethernet. If that was to ever happen I wouldnt have to carry a laptop anymore!

Despite this thread being created, I've never heard of anyone losing warranty after restoring from a jailbreak.
