While talking to my bank on the customer service line about an issue with my account I asked her about support for apple pay, she said that many of her fellow employees are getting Apple pay training tonight!!!!so tomorrow will be a big day for sure!!

Sweet, I cannot wait to hang my $1,000 iPhone 6 Plus out the window of my car at the McDonalds drive-thru!

I know right, i saw that article as well. You would think that the antenna portion could be made water tight and mounted to the bottom of the drive through window or on the side of the building under the window at the very least. I don't know the technical workings of NFC, but you think it would be possible.

Also the banks name was "Navy Federal".. I am hoping they update the app soon for iPhone 6+ optimization... But it's good to hear they are training tonight on it, how many banks do midnight training on software updates? That's why I love Navy Federal and USAA

Cashier Employees at Whole Foods Market told me that they are doing training and were told Apple Pay would launch in 2 weeks there. That's what they said at one location I visited a few days ago.

as long as iOS8 fixes a plethora of bugs currently present, i don't think ill be participating. Im looking forward to stability and bug fixes with iOS8 over the ability to use Pay.

YES. Have used every iPhone and iOS version to date and iOS8 is by far the buggiest (this is running on a 6+).

I agree.
I've also had every iOS except for the first one and this is the buggiest I've ever experienced as well.:(

iOS 8.1 Beta 2 is really stable.. No more wifi issues and great cell signal with Verizon. The only problems I have found are cosmetic and does not effect me on a daily basis. Also I havnt had anymore Bluetooth issues.. Works like a dream with my 1 year old pioneer headunit..

Will the Apple Pay platform be available to limited areas only? I mean will it be available in our country, Philippines, as well?

For now, it's apparently only in the US.

1. The card issuing banks or their processors have to onboard with tokenization.

2. The banks apparently have to agree to give Apple a cut of each transaction. The cut they're reportedly getting in the US, is more than banks in some countries can afford.

3. NFC terminals and everyone upstream must enable all EMV data fields. (Previously, some might only have what was minimally needed for current magstripe cards.) In the US, I think that Visa had a June 2014 deadline for that to be done.

4. NFC terminals have to get a minor table update to recognize the new token bank prefixes.

I thought I also read that only transactions in US dollars are allowed right now. I know that's true for some in-app Apple Pay providers, but not sure if that carries over to NFC payments as well.

Apple has said that they're working to get Apple Pay available in the EU as soon as possible. Haven't heard about any other areas.

I don't think there will be a mad dash... There are more older iPhones in the world than the 6.. And many retailers won't start using it for a couple weeks....

My wife and I already use the Dunkin Donuts app to pay for purchases at the drive thru. They have scanners with long cables so they can reach out the window and scan the screen of your phone. I see no reason why McDonalds couldn't put the NFC reader on the end of a long cable as well.

You don't have to give your phone to anyone--just wave it by the sensor (which they push out their hatch at you) similar to what you do at a cash register. I'm not sure why the drive-thru scenario would make your phone any harder to hold onto than anything else you use your phone for. Nor any more susceptible to bad weather than any other phone use. If the drive-thru has no shelter and it's a storm, I'd probably choose to use my card or walk inside--but there's not much else I could do with my phone outdoors in such conditions either.

See the picture--they iPhone user barely has to reach out. His wrist is resting on the car window sill:

Swiping a credit card at a terminal has been such a pain for so many decades.
Not.

That plastic card is just too much of an inconvenience to carry around and use.
Not.

Apple pay clearly will make purchasing so much easier, safer and better.
Not.

Apple pay is a solution looking for a problem.
Is.

Oh my phone batt died & my credit card is at home. I guess I'm screwed.
Are.

My fear is dropping the phone while attempting to make the payment, especially with the 6 plus. For the few times I go to McDs, I will probably just use cash

Will I be able to use Apple Pay at *any* store with an NFC point of sale module, or is it limited to partners who specifically accept Apple Pay?

I thought I knew the answer to this. Now I'm not so sure.

EDIT: Thanks for the replies. It looks like Apple Pay will work anywhere contactless payments are accepted.
Apple Pay partners are simply those Apple worked with closely to ensure the stores had these modules at all of their locations. It's not limited to them.

Kudos to dannyyankou (post #10) for the youtube link that plays right at the spot this info is given.

I do not believe that it will work ANYWHERE contact payments are presently accepted. Note this text from the Revel POS press release about Apple Pay:

" There are currently six companies that work with Apple Pay, including:
•Authorize.Net
•Chase Paymentech
•CyberSource
•First Data
•TSYS
•Stripe

To begin utilizing Apple Pay, Revel clients are required to create an account with Chase. This will work independently from the customer's merchant account unless he or she wishes to use Chase as their merchant account as well."

Not all retailers are going to have done this, or are even going to be willing to do so. I do system work for some retailers who I can say with out a doubt are not going to be willing to bring in another provider or switch their accounts to say a Chase.

You can add WorldPay to that list.
I am attending a webinar on it next month.

My coworker saw them installing new terminals at Panera a few weeks back and they said it was for Apple Pay, and this is just a college town in the midwest. So I'd guess they'll probably be launching it rather soon since the pieces are already quickly going into place at locations way out here.

I never said I have to give my phone to anyone, and yes, the guy in in your picture is, in fact, hanging his phone out the window of his car.

But my post was actually a hypothetical, as I never eat the crap McDonalds or any other fast food retailer sells.

Buy a damn charger and cord for your car...... I am sick of people complaining about a dead phone battery. I have a charger in my car and small solar battery charger that fits in my purse. I don't have issues with dead phone batteries.

And after having one credit card and my debit card being compromised, I welcome Apple Pay wholeheartedly....

Yes. Yes, it will. Tokenization pretty much completely removes the chance of your card being hacked in the next inevitable mass compromise. Any payment system, be it Apple Pay or anything else, that uses tokenization is much more secure.

This is my confusion too. I see the NFC modules at most locations I shop, and I'm not sure if it's only the already mentioned partners or anywhere I see these modules.
I'm not positive, but if the terminal displays this logo, it should accept Apple Pay. I believe this logo means NFC payments using the EMV standard are accepted. Can someone confirm?

Apple Pay will definitely be safer. Unless you think magnetic stripe and exposed CC numbers is safe. Hello Target, Kmart, Home Depot, PF Chang's.....yeah plastic is very safe.

Agreed. People that I've come across that complain about battery life simply don't want to charge their device at all, not even at night while they're sleeping.

That's a bit of a self correcting problem... :D

Seriously though, I understand getting caught out now and then, or if your job keeps you away from charging. Most everyone I know that regularly has low battery though just doesn't pay attention.
