Safari was pretty flawless outside of Facebook for me, but this makes even FB run at 30FPS+ thanks :D

Now lets hope they can remove the odd jutters that occur with 10.9!

I'm sure they will fix the UI slowness in 10.8 too, it's just a matter of time. If you put the dock on the side of the screen, dock magnification and window minimize animations are 100% smooth, whereas when the dock is on the bottom, you get stuttering. This leads me to think it's something with the dock's frosted glass reflections not being rendered efficiently.

The only time I have noticed scrolling lag is on The Verge. I tried the webkit and scrolling lag was now non existent. Though, it's not a big issue for me as it is for others so I'll keep on using safari.

Lots of computers of all kinds lag on the Verge.

Hey guys,
So I'm typing this one my brand new 15" rMBP.. It's amazing :D
In the appstore there is an update available for the notorious EFI update. Would you guys recommend updating? Or wait for a newer update?

Thanks in advance!!

You are either lying or using an external display...or using switchresx to not scale the resolution. Facebook lags on ALL retina MBPs in best for display mode.

I have a 13 inch retina macbook pro AND IT DOES NOT LAG WHEN USING FACEBOOK. Do NOT try to tell me how my laptop is working, I can see it with my own eyes. Facebook works just fine on it. And I'm not using an external monitor.

If your rMBP is having a problem, fine. Say so, but do not presume to speak for other people. Ever.

Well, maybe you should mention you are talking about the 13"...since this is a known problem with the 15", which has a massively higher resolution than any other laptop available.

its most definitely not a 'dog on anything'. scrolls fine on my 2008 macbook. works fine on my i5-2500k PC running windows 7. it also scrolls just fine on an external monitor connected to my RMBP.

I installed the fix, and on the best for mac setting, everything was smooth again. Now I switched to scaled at 1680x1050, and facebook is really choppy again.. Any way to fix this?

Some people just don't see fast changes very well. My sister can watch 25fps video that's deinterlaced with the fields reverse, so frames ordered like 2-1-4-3-6-5-8-7-10-9.. Gives me a headache.

I notice a Nook Color's flicker at 128Hz. When changed to run at 256Hz it's still somewhat noticeable if I wave the tablet around. But hey, when do you wave an ebook reader..

Maybe you're in her camp. Be glad a retina macbook works out for you. You paid enough for it.

My rMBP RARELY gives me lag issues, even on Facebook, Engadget and other JS heavy sites. Hmmm...

I mean Im thankful, but I wonder why...

This may be a stupid question, but how does one go about using the WebKit nightly builds? Does it modify safari when you install it, or does it run like it's own separate browser?

It's a separate app but it uses the same bookmarks and configuration.

If you like the dock on the bottom but want the 2D look instead (I think it looks cleaner- Jony Ive would approve) you can run this command in terminal:

defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES; killall Dock

It also seems to fix any slight stuttering you might see.
If you want the 3D look back just change the YES to a NO and run it again.

holly smokes this is indeed true!! This pretty much confirms there is something software related out there.. come on apple fix this crap pls!

Thank you for this tip!

EDIT: I seriously cannot believe what a difference this makes... no more laggy window movements, no more lag when changing desktops or when opening notifications bar, no more... nothing...

This small fix has made my 15 inch retina macbook completely utterly FLAWLESS. I do miss the 3d dock, but i'll take that fix easily!! :D

Where do you run this? Sorry new to macs, keep seeing code related posts but don't know where to put them.

I'm assuming the equivalent of Command Prompt (MSDOS) on PCs.

open your applications folder then open Utilities and you should see an app called terminal. Open it and type the command described in the previous post ;)

This kills the dock altogether. anyway to keep a bottom dock still?

Didn't on my machine. Just made it look like the side dock. Made my 2006 iMac feel... snappier.

Yeah it even seems to help with Expose and transitions between spaces a bit smoother on older machines (I'm on my old macbook pro right now with the nVidia 9400 GPU). When you use the 2D dock it doesn't have to render the reflections in the smoked glass.

Εxactly, but to be honest I dont believe that this cannot be optimized with a further update by apple... i mean it is just reflections... the machine has enough hardware to pretty much run every game on high with repsectable framerates at 1920 resolution, i cannot believe that some dock reflections are too much for it lol!

Apple just needs to optimize this a bit more.

Doesn't help. Or at least it makes no discernible difference to my rMBP at all.

You sure your machine doesn't have the EFI bug?
