10.8.2

It's out, can people with retinas report back? Is the graphics performance any better? Is it worth my returning my new non retina to get a retina? Inquiring minds! Thanks!!!

10.8.2 did nothing, bit the EFI update solved the issue, I guess. do not see any lag after EFI update.

Scrolling does seem to feel much smoother on theverge and facebook after EFI & 10.8.2 updates.

My Retina now feels exactly like my old 2011 MBP 15".

Except the resolution is a lot higher and the screen looks a lot sharper!

Scaled modes (1680 x 1050 and 1920 x 1200) don't seem that much better, though.

After I ran all the updates, it seemed like everything was snappier and faster on my rMBP @ 'like 1920x1200' setting.

After a few days I ran the gfx benchmarks from xbench, and lo and behold: where I was first getting a score of 88 on the UI test, I am now getting 220. Mind you, that is still less than half of what the 9600GT in my early 2009 managed to do on Leopard. It is however significantly faster than it used to be.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but does anyone have any feedback on the new Early 2013 rMBPs? How do they perform in the gfx test? I'm thinking of getting a maxed out 15" but I don't want to spend so much and be disappointed by UI performance, especially when I'm used to my silky smooth Mac Pro with Radeon HD 5870.

In the Apple shop, scrolling in Mail still seemed very laggy with some of the picture-heavy example emails. However, all the demo units are set to switchable graphics so I assume that Mail was using integrated graphics. Unfortunately, this setting is locked so you can't change it to force use of the discreet card.

Given that the computers are plugged in all the time, I find it strange that they went with a lower performance setting when using discreet graphics would probably provide a better demo and smoother UI performance. Of course there's no point asking the Apple staff because they tell you that they can't change it.

I've been searching a lot but find a lot of varying and conflicting information on whether the discreet card does any better. In theory it should right?

I guess I can always buy it and return it if I'm not satisfied.

Why should discrete do better if most of the reports have been shown to have a software-based cause? The integrated chip technically has more than enough horsepower to run the display!

What you should be asking is whether Apple have any developers left seriously working on Apple's worst-in-class graphics drivers and and OS drawing functionality. The very sketchy reports so far on the seriously delayed 10.8.3 doesn't bode well...

I've got one of the new 2.7 16gb models and feel it is very smooth. I noticed the choppiness when the first ones came out, but I think it has mostly been solved through software updates. No complaints from me on UI lag and I'm picky about that sort if thing.
