Are you running at max brightness? And what's your typical usage like? Web browsing, gaming, video streaming, etc...?

I got 15hr on my Air and I'm at 9hr now with 41% left on my rMini. I usually have brightness at around 25% with the majority of my usage being web browsing.

Brightness no more than 50%. Mostly I browse, with some gaming and video thrown in.

I've done extensive testing though and I'm getting roughly the same 10% an hour no matter what I'm doing.

58% remaining
6 hours 32 mins usage
1 day 20 hours standby

I am pretty damn happy with that, i am heading for about 14 hours usage with well over 2 days standby.

Well i am down to 1% now
14 hours 54 mins
exactly 7 days standby

Well happy.

Mine's been outstanding. Haven't run it into the ground from a full charge (and had a respring clear my usage data after about 8 hours of use last time), but I've been getting what extrapolates to around 12-14 hours of use. I was at 8.5 hours with around 35% remaining at one point. In any case, it lasts quite a while...easily as good as my non-retina Mini was, and perhaps even a little better. This is mostly web browsing/reading with some light gaming thrown in (Played a lot of Badland over the weekend).

With heavy browsing, gaming, videos, messaging, and reading. Very happy with this thing.

>12 hours of usage. 2 days standby.

I have been watching a lot of Hulu+ on my rMini and it just died the other night (I wanted to kill the battery to calibrate the battery). However, I got over a weeks worth of videos, web browsing, social networking, and check email on one full charge. So far, I would say the batter life has been outstanding.

I agree, and I love watching Hulu on it, the battery barely drops while I watch it for an hour on the treadmill with my Bluetooth headphones. With my iPhone 4S the battery drains so fast while watching videos I have to have a charger with me wherever I go.

I might as well post this question here:

Does anyone know if Apple uses the same battery charging technology in the iPad as they do in their MBPs? I ask because almost 3 years ago, I bought a new MBP and an iPod Touch. Now, my iPod's battery barely lasts an hour playing games, yet my MBP is still at 96% health (granted, <170 cycles, but still). So I'm guessing that 3 years ago, Apple was using far better battery charging tech on their MBPs than their more mobile devices.

You guys can't just quote these great hour ratings without stating what brightness level your Mini Retina is set at the very least.

My retina mini has only been charged to 100% once since I got it! which was on Sunday. I'm currently at 33% with 11 hours 11 mins of usage and 1 day 13 hours standby.

I always get above 10 hours on my iPad 2 and I'm glad to see the retina mini is the same! Brightness usually around a 1/3, only game I've played is Candy Crush :p, Mostly web browsing, YouTube/dailymotion and keynote so far.

If only the iPhone battery was as good!

I have my brightness at roughly 75-80% with auto-brightness on.

Usage: 10 hours 50 mins
Standby: 4 days 18 hours

33% battery remaining, but immediately plugged in after reading Lifehacker article posted earlier: http://lifehacker.com/5789794/avoid-frequent-discharges-to-extend-your-phone-or-laptops-battery-life

Either way, I've never owned an iOS device with this much battery power. Another reason I love my mini.

My first full charge lasted 11hrs 47min and just over 2+days of standby...around 50% brightness using a balanced mix of LTE and WiFi. Mainly used for web browsing and reading...little bit of music streaming.

Very good performance so far.

Treat your batteries well

A few battery tips garnered from many places. First check out battery university to better understand Li batteries. Also since most of us upgrade to new devices after two to three years or sooner, most any way you decide to charge and use your device will give you a usable lifespan. So no need to get OCD over your battery.

The batteries are rated for about 500 100% discharges and still have 70-80% of full capacity. Note that five 20% discharges equal one 100%. Also, as with all manufactured items, a certain percentage will get a bad battery and or device. No manufacturing process is 100% perfect all the time. If you get a bad one, go to Apple Store and see what they will do for you.

Li battery chemistry hates heat. So avoid high temperature situations as much as possible. If your device gets hot during charging or intensive processor use, try to allow contact with cooler surfaces to draw away heat when in these situations. Never leave your device in a hot car, even turned off.

Li batteries will fail if overcharged or if allowed to fall below a threshold voltage. Use only Apple chargers and cords as the device in conjunction with these is designed to prevent over and undercharge conditions. You may be lucky and use third party charger/cords without incident, but you really want to risk hundreds of dollars to save twenty bucks?

If you want to be kind to your battery, consider usually charging when you reach 30% and ending charge at 80%. This is a sweet spot for the chemistry of Li batteries. When it's convenient, and I reach 30-40% I connect the charger for short time, like 30 minutes and take it back into low 80% range. Of course when I know I need it due being on the go, I charge to 100%. I may be deluding myself, but have noticed increase in duration since I got my iPhone and iPad following this protocol. About very six weeks I will drain to 10% and charge to 100% to recalibrate the percent meter. Doesn't do anything for battery, just adjusts the range of the meter to improve accuracy.

I leave you with this to ponder. Toyota in their Prius Hybrid has the Li battery pack cycle between 60% low and 80% high. Since the battery pack is $10,000 and needs to last the life of car, five years plus. They use this conservative charge cycle programmed into the controller to maximize battery longevity.

Enjoy your devices, and don't be too stressed over your battery.
