I have the following retro equipment/software that I am trying to use for a retro video project:
  1. Apple PowerBook G4 17” (2005) PCCard slot, can mount P2 card from DVCPRO camera.
  2. Mac OS X 10.4.11 (2007)
  3. Final Cut Studio 2 (2007), a.k.a. FCP v6.06. This specifically supports Panasonic’s DVCPRO products
  4. Panasonic AG-HVX200AP DVCPRO HD P2 (2005)
  5. Panasonic P2 Driver for 10.4
  6. Additionally, the MXF format was released in 2004
Unfortunately, this combination does not appear to work together, even though they all existed contemporaneously, as FCP apparently did not support MXF natively until FCPX 10.1.4 in 2014, and therefore requires the Panasonic driver and/or a plugin.

When I try to import (Import -> Folder), I get the error, “File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 8 unknown.” The recognized file is a .bmp, the unrecognized files are the MXF files.

After reading numerous posts on the subject - in which quite a few people reported it both working and not working after installing the Panasonic driver, I understand that I am supposed to have the following option in FCP: Import -> Panasonic P2.

I do not have that option.

I have also found a post that refers to an unidentified plugin which I assumed was the Panasonic driver, but that might not be the case.

Is anyone aware of such a plugin?

Any advice on getting this working?

Regards,

-k
