Well then that wouldn't be an exchange now would it?

Sure. They'll credit you what you spent.

Think of it this way. You bought an item of a certain description and it was on sale (subsidized).

Now, you're past the 14-day window to qualify for the sale price (subsidy) on a phone that is like yours, but another style (size/color).

I know it seems like it could be easily done, but the phone you bought was attached to a contract with specific terms.

Btw, a bunch of 64Gig gold CDMA phones are in stock for in store pickup tomorrow at just about all Washington State Apple stores if anyone is looking for one; better hurry though!

I bought my phone at best buy and I am a premier silver member which gives me a 45 day return window on all products.

If I returned my phone on day 44 they could easily exchange the device for me (although a straight return would lose my eligibility), they just ignore the subsidy return the full price of one phone and sell the full price of the new phone.

It isn't that it is hard it is that apple doesn't want to do it.

Yes they will refund you the difference plus applicable taxes.

Correct. I exchanged mine for the same size, and actually got $1.50 refunded because I went to an apple store in a different city and the taxes are slightly lower there.

You can exchange it, but you won't get your upgrade eligibility reset and so you'll have to pay full price for the new phone.

I called AT&T to confirm this fact as well. Is there anyone that's actually returned the phone in the 14-30 day window? Do you ever get your upgrade eligibility back? Seems kind of unfair for AT&T to lock you into a contract and then not ever provide a subsidized device. A new customer might not have another phone at all.

I assume there's an accounting reason for not offering the subsidy after 14 days. Look at it this way... Person can always keep the phone they bought. Or, buy another one full price and sell the one they do not want on CL or eBay.

At least go 32gb

Why pay for the extra? if the user doesn't need it.

My last two iPhones have been 16GB packed with apps and pics and I've coped absolutely fine with that. I don't understand this bigger is best attitude in regards to storage if its not genuinely needed.

Bigger is best attitude? Sounds like you're trying to justify "smaller is enough attitude" With the higher quality images, 320kbps music files, and apps, games mainly becoming increasingly more detailed (due to the much better gpu) It only makes sense that you are eventually gonna hit the cap and you're gonna have to play the juggling game with your media, 32gb is getting to that area where it's just right. 16gb i believe comes with a little over 12GBs? There's apps that are 1,2,3gb alone.

Sorry for having a preference?

Not sure why you're getting so defensive, it was a simple suggestion/opinion. People on MR are so touchy these days. Of course if you stream all your music, don't use apps or keep anything on your phone you can get away with 16gb.

Whoa whoa whoa... Listen im not getting touchy or defensive, it just seems people on MR always seem to push the bigger is best, all im saying is, thats not necessarily the case if the extra space is not needed, so in theory a waste of money.

But i get your point on apps growing in size and higher quality images. In all honesty I'm not opposed to larger storage, I would welcome it if apple made the base storage 32GB but kept the price point low as if it were the 16GB.

I understand where you're coming from on the "Bigger is Better", however that was never my intention. There are some people who could have 128gb phone and still complain about space, to me that excessive to others that's what they "need". In all reality I am hoping for a 32gb iPhone 6, as I hate getting stung for an extra $100 for 16GB. That's what made me defect to a Galaxy S4 for 6 months, but I eventually returned as I still prefer iOS as an operating system.

I had a 32gb 4S, and thought I could "get by" with a 16GB and went 16GB iPhone 5, mainly decision was because I paid off contract pricing for it. However with a couple 1080p videos, a handful of high quality apps, and a little over 1,000 songs I was capped and every time I went to go snap a picture I'd get that silly error message about not enough space.

Long rant short, If you're planning on using your device as your primary device to carry around for music/photos/entertainment I feel as you should explore bigger options. If you're just making phone calls, texting, email, and facebook you would be perfectly fine with a 16 :)

I attempted to return my 64GB Space Gray ATT iPhone for the same exact model in Gold. Apple would let me return it, but they said ATT's return policy is only 14 days. I was on my 18th day, so they said it wouldn't restore my upgrade and possibly charge an ETF. I asked if it would be possible to just exchange the phone without messing with the account/upgrade, and they said it was not possible. It's kind of ridiculous and very un-Apple like.

Emphasis mine. Apple isn't sitting on the pile of money they have by accommodating everyone's buyer's remorse. Next time wait 18 days and get the one you want? Or call AT&T and see if they will assist?
