Return current iPhone 4, wait a couple weeks, re-buy new one with fixed antenna?

1: Return my iPhone 4.

2. Use a "dummy" phone for a couple weeks.

3. In early August, order a new one. I will still be eligible for the same pricing I used for the first iPhone 4, right?

4. The new iPhone 4 batches will have a fixed antenna issue, so yeah... Non-launch adopters will have "fixed" phones.

Is this a good plan IYO?? Why or why not?

No design changes until next year. Sorry dude, that's how the cycle goes.

I posted yesterday that we would see all kinds of weird interpretations from today's press conference.

This is a good one. Just like when Apple released the letter and people made it say all kinds of things it did not say to justify odd and weird behavior.

Feel free to return your iPhone, but there is no guarantee or even likelihood of a new antenna design coming out for the iPhone 4.

So if you return it, you should do so on that basis, because that is literally all the information you have right now.

If they don't fix it then who's going to buy it ?

3 million people bought because they didn't know about the problem. Now who's going to buy a defective product ?

Only fanboys and idiots ...who else ? Let's see if people go for the "big" phone or the "defective" one. Good luck selling another 3 million from this point on....

They have sold half those three million phones are more SINCE people started talking about it and since Apple said it is not a problem. On top of that they literally sell them as fast as they can make them.

So you figure out who or what is defective... I do have some suggestions for you.

Lucky you that you should live in an area with excellent cell coverage. I get 1-2 bars at home but 5 at work. This is on 4.0, by the way. I suppose you can guess in which location problems occur.

I have five bars all the time, even on 4.01. Never dropped a call. I know I'm lucky.

I'm curious, where are you all getting these "no hardware changes" assertions? Read the transcript very carefully. Jobs never once denies that hardware changes are coming. He says things like "I'm not sure what good it would do" and "we'll keep working on it." They're all statements that won't be false if they do release a revision. Where does he specifically deny that hardware changes are coming?

We'll see....

Not everybody reads Engadget. People see new iphone 4 ads and walk in stores... We'll see if they don't fix it and continue selling/making defective units... how many more they'll sell....

As I said, we'll see... ;)

Once again, Folks, September 30th is a date Apple set because it's their end of Q3 reporting quarter.

That's why they will reevaluate their plans after September 30th. My hunch is that they will continue making "free bumpers" available to all those who purchase iPhone 4 after Sept. 30th.

But knowing Apple, they are already in the middle of iPhone 5th generation model and have zero plans to redesign their current product.

I know of ZERO cell phone manufactures who redesign an antenna problem and resell the same phone. They are better off milking this current model and waiting till next year to introduce another model.

wouldu think like several layers of clear nail polish, would that do the trick

nail polish it is.... :D

I am 100% sure they'll do something about it. They won't keep selling a phone with a "known" defect.

but of course all the "fanboys" will be out of their "return" period... lol lolllll

Seriously people there will be no hardware changes until iphone 5...

can we please just quit bickering and drop this thread now.

quit feeding the trolls
