did we read the same article?

"There's no doubt in my mind this iPhone gets the best cellular reception yet, even though measured signal is lower than the 3GS."

BEST cellular reception yet despite this so-called "issue". Gee, I wonder what OP is waiting for? Maybe once this "issue" is fixed he expects iPhone to pick up signals from Mars?

My experience

I posted this on another thread, but maybe it belongs here.

I'll try to be brief: took ip4 into Apple store today. The genius set up my iphone as new, blaming faulty data since I had backed up from restore. Left store, made one call. It failed. Tried again, sounded like I was underwater. Tried again, reached my friend, call dropped. Tried again, she said it sounded as though I was underwater. Tried again, call dropped.

Went immediately back to Apple store and convinced them to give me a new phone. The guy there restored it from the backup (in spite of my protests.)

Tried to make calls; totally still messed up.

Called and got really great apple support person. He tested my phone by calling - his call went straight to voicemail. We set the phone up as new. No data on phone. Tested. Call failed. Removed and replaced SIM card, tested, all calls went straight to voicemail. He believed me. He said he will report this. He said Apple is aware of problem and is working on it. I am going to ATT corporate tomorrow to get a new SIM card to see if this could be it, and I will call him back (he gave me his direct number.)

He suggested going to apple.com/feedback (something like this) and reporting stuff that's not working - since real people supposedly read those things.

The Longer You Wait, The Harder It Will Be.

I returned my iPhone4 to the Apple retail store yesterday, in and out within 10 minutes, and as one would expect in the UK I got a "Full Refund". I hear that some are being charged a restocking fee, this is absolute rubbish! The iPhone4 is not "Fit For Purpose", so take yours back before time runs out.:D

Maybe you're pleased with your iPhone 4 but I was not and returned it. It's my choice.

There are many others out there that are having the reception issues as well. Quoting someone else's review doesn't change this fact.

I loved the iPhone 4 speed wise and brilliant display. It was night and day between my old 3G. However, the reception issue and lack of a fix made me return the phone. I want to buy another one when the dust settles and the reception issue is resolved.

When do you think this will be fixed?

"Don't hold it that way." :D :apple:

I really feel for all those people who stood in line for hours and others for days to end up with an iphone 4 that does not work as it should. I am one of the lucky ones. Before I saw this issue on Macrumors, I intended on getting one when the buying frenzy died down a bit. What's crazy is that much of the general public know nothing about what's going on.

I tried lol and it felt too weird to not hold it my normal way. I repeat, I will buy another iPhone 4 when it's fixed.

Not only does it feel weird, I am fairly confident that you will drop it if you don't take a firm grip on it! I will also buy the iPhone 4 after :apple: have found a permanent "Fix" for this Worldwide so called SJ: "None Issue" problem.

I was just going to send pms to all the juntennies to find out what they planned to do with their iphone 4s.

Glad you saved me having to send out one more pm.

You did the right thing. Everyone else should get some backbone too and not accept this BS from Apple.

Signal Attenuation Comparison in dB - Lower is Better
Cupping Tightly Holding Naturally On an Open Palm Holding Nat. Inside Case
iPhone 4 24.6 19.8 9.2 7.2
iPhone 3GS 14.3 1.9 0.2 3.2
HTC Nexus One 17.7 10.7 6.7 7.7
Anand Shimpi and Brian Klug over at Anandtech have done some rigorous testing of an iPhone 4 alongside an iPhone 3GS and a Nexus One. His findings, not surprisingly: the Death Grip is real, it's serious, and you need bumpers. The test results unambiguously replicate what has been effectively crowdsourced over the past week, and should increase the pressure on Apple to stand up and deal with the problem. (I'm not saying it will, but it most definitely should.)

Dude..did you read the whole article?

FTFY... at least it's how people should look on this whole thing. Bumpers are not a solution, they're a Band-Aid; Apple needs to be called to the carpet for this if it turns out to be a true design flaw/problem for enough people, and considering that more people are chiming in with problems minute by minute all over the place, I - and the iPhone 4 sitting here beside me that doesn't work in my hand - say let 'em have it... in spades, at least until the speak up and admit something or make SOME kind of statement one way or another.

I think i will be returning mine today as well, not only the antenna issues but also the damn green blob on pictures....

Then don't come into the thread to post. You make yourself look like an idiot.

The problem here is the idiots posting crap like this in the first place. There are hundreds of threads that are a HUGE waste of space on this forum. This is an example of one. There are at least 15 threads on this site about the reception problem and there is no need to start another one. Just contribute to one of the other threads.

Quality threads are actually being pushed deeper into the site because of crap like this.
