I'm in the navy and on base we have our navy exchange where we get things a bit cheaper and tax free. They haven't gotten the iPad2 in yet but they have a 32gb iPad for $489 so I picked one up yesterday.

They also had a wifi galaxy tab for $350. I'm kinda stuck wether or not I should return this one for the tab.all I need it for is basic web browsing, occasional games and things. I already have a 64 4th gen iPod touch.

Do you think I should give the tab a try?

Oh sorry for thread stealing.

I used to have the tab, which I gave to my dad after getting the Ipad 2 and I loved it. I really missed Android,iOS got really boring after a few weeks and mobile safari sucks with all the tab reloading and no flash support. I ended up getting a Xoom, which is just about perfect after 3.1 update improved stability and performance. I would recommend the tab over ipad 1 any day of the week, since you can do so much more with Android and Opera mobile is amazing on it. The screen is very nice for reading as well,in fact I think it's better then ipad and Xoom. However,if you're willing to wait a few weeks you can pick up the 10.1 Galaxy Tab,which according to early reviews has an amazing design with the best screen of any tablet.

I'm also looking into the 10.1 tab. They also have the zoom there and I'm also considering jumping over to that.

It really comes down to whether you like to tweak your devces if so I'd get the Xoom right now since it's Google's reference tablet. It took me about 15 minutes to unlock and root it,now I'm running a custom 1.5ghz kernel with overclocked gpu, and it's the best thing since sliced bread. The screen isn't as bright or vibrant as the ipad, but I rarely max out the brightness anyways so to me it's not a big deal.

Agreed. If you are a constant tinkerer and are not tied to iOS then Android is the right platform. If price is a concern then the Android is the right platform. If you have must have iOS apps or need the coolest design then iPad2 is the way to go. I had an iPad and then a iPad2, I bought the GT as an experiment and really thought I'd sell it. But as it turns out I'm going to keep it and wait to see what iPad3 will offer.

Does the screen of the Xoom &/or Tab have any kind of light bleeding issues that the iPad 2 have? 😕

My tab has very minimal, not to the degree that the iPad2 had. The iPad1 was perfect, no bleed whatsoever. People receiving their iPad2's very recently have been reporting much less or no light bleed. I think if you are receiving an iPad2 you will notice less light bleed b/c of changing over to Samsung LCD screens.

Guys, thanks for sharing your experiences with the screens. I really appreciate it. 🙂

I've not managed to get an iPad 2 at a local B&M store since beginning my quest to search for one 1-2 days after the iPad 2 launch date (almost 10 weeks now). 🙁 It sucks but it may not be a bad thing after all as the iPad 2 screen bleeding fiasco has not really been resolved as of now (based on the screen bleeding thread that I kept an eye on daily). Having read positive reviews (including both of yours) of the Xoom & Tab, I think I might just give up looking for an iPad 2 & instead give the Xoom or Tab a chance. 🙂

Get it from a place with a good return policy. That way if you don't like it you could always return it.

netflix works fine on the galaxy tab.

I can even watch those Amazon instant videos on the galaxy tab using Dolphin HD browser and set the useragent as desktop. The video ran very smooth.

My kids play flash games from Nick Jr website, PBS kids website, etc just fine. No problem again.

Something iPad can't do.

Well this morning i decided to return the ipad and picked up a Xoom. So far i have it rooted and i am in love. I can tinker with it as much as i want and it's just so flexible.

I'm happy with my choice so far. Lets see after a couple days when the honeymoon phase wears off.

I'm guessing Xoom owners are still posting here because there is little to no content, blogs, info, apps, bbs, etc for Xoom owners on the web?

I'm also curious to know how often the Xoom crashes on you guys? That was an issue in the reviews I read.

Enjoy it I am either getting another acer or transformer next week have enough best buy points that it will cost me about 25.00 ....I found the 10.1 screen is perfect for me.

It crashed alot with the launch release, which is why I opted for the ipad initially. However with 3.1 it's solid as a rock.

Thanks. I ask because my interest lies in the Samsung 10.1 and wanted to know if the Android update fixed that issue.

With a handle like that, getting an Android sounds blasphamous! 😛
Well, I have a couple of ATV's, iPhones, iPads, and Mac's... Looking for something a little different. The Samsung 10.1 is the first Android based tablet that looks promising to me. 😀
