I have an in store pick up on Friday for the Green AT&T iPhone Pro Max does any one know if I’ll have issues switching out for the silver or will they not let me since its 8 am and they have a line full of customers that have been waiting.

I dont think you will have a problem, just tell them you changed your mind and see if they have avail stock.

If they do have stock do I have to have another $103 for the taxes or will they just keep the taxes from the 1st order since it’s a exchange?
 
From my past experience they are not going to let you exchange it. You will have to cancel the order and order a new one. The stores have limited stock the first few weeks and they are all reserved for in store preorders.

I tried to do that last year with the XS and they wouldn’t allow it due to low inventory.

Yes, its likely that all the inventory for that day has already been assigned. Giving out a silver might mean that someone who ordered silver beforehand won't get theirs. Not guaranteed this is the case, but it's most likely since most stores are sold out for launch day.
 
Guess it depends on inventory? I was able to exchange/return my silver XS max for gold last year. Although it caused issues with the IUP app, leaving me with TWO phones for a month ( long story ) ...

You’re definitely going to have to wait a few hours after launch. Reps will not service you or will be pissed off if they did. They gotta keep that line moving.

Technically, not all inventory for that day are already assigned. They do set aside for walk-in reservations. So you technically can stand in the walk-in line and reserve one and then pick up the other, and see if they can switch it. Otherwise just have to buy both and return one later.

You're the 2nd person I've read switch colors to Silver. Why? What's going on with the Midnight Green?
 
I pre-ordered the iPhone 8+ in gold and it shipped to me on launch day. I didn’t care for the color so I took it to the Apple Store that evening and asked if they had any in silver. They did, so I got a refund on the gold one and bought the silver. Pretty easy.

Having said that, what you’re wanting to do is slightly different. The 8+ wasn’t the “flagship” that year, so supply was solid. Also, I went in after all the preorders were picked up.

I’m thinking it will be much more difficult to get a color change done on launch day during your preorder appointment. You can always ask, but your best bet is to take the midnight green and get a refund once you find a Silver one. You have two weeks to return the midnight green phone so you have plenty of time to find what you want.

Absolutely untrue - I have changed colors on launch day when I showed up for my in-store pickup twice in previous years. Pain in the butt with iUP because they have to cancel the original loan, and start a new one, but never did anyone give me attitude about it. The vibe in the Apple store is awesome and fun on launch day, a "we're all in this together" feel, which is why I always choose in-store pickup instead of having it shipped to my house.

Another thought: you haven't even seen what the green looks like in person and maybe you will decide to stick with that color.

As for exchanging, technically you haven't even bought it yet. You will have to return the green and buy the silver. Pretty sure they don't do 'exchanges.'

As for restocking fees, I'm also pretty sure that Apple does not charge them. Besides, you're not really 'returning' it. You are cancelling the pre-order.

It's not negative to state past experiences and to adjust expectations. I don't think anyone is telling the OP to be negative, but to be realistic.
 
You'll most likely have to wait. I think they have limited inventory as said before, and people who had already ordered a silver phone would take priority over you wanting to exchange it. But who knows.
