Got my Hi-Res AG and i'm really really liking it thus far. Evenly lit, no dead pixels and i'm having no issues with the fonts. Very good screen and a breath of fresh air from glossy screens. The hinge is also far sturdier than my current machine.

I just returned my 2010 MBP, glossy Hi-Res. I'm awaiting the refunded Apple gift cards from Apple before purchasing the 2011.

The small text on the Hi-Res did bother me. So this time around, I'm thinking about going standard resolution and upgrading to a SSD instead.

I'm familiar with the screen real estate advantage of the Hi-Res, but what else would I be missing out on with the Standard-Res?

I'm not a huge movie watcher on the MBP, so that's not a real issue. I'll be making some projects on iMovie, but outside of real estate, what else would the Standard-Res affect there?

I'm ready to pull the trigger on this one, but you're stuck with the screen res forever.

Any advice?

I don't get why people show pictures where the glossy display is in worst case scenario angle. You would never work like that, and if you had to do it you would be sitting in front of it and blocking the light. It's almost like you people have started some competition as if it was AG-Team vs G-Team and trying to score points.

Exactly... I've owned both, and both are great in their own respects. But reflections are simply not a real world issue, at least for me. I've never been in a situation where reflections caused any trouble whatsoever with my work or enjoyment. Even outdoors on our patio on a nice day. It simply isn't a problem. Period. If it is, one must be at the wrong angle, or something. Or the sun/lightbulbs in this state are different than elsewhere :)

That being said, I also never got the whole "AG displays are less rich" thing. Mine was just as brilliant as a glossy screen. Just a bit less attractive to me personally. Both worked perfect, no issues at all under ANY lighting circumstance, this time I just went for the glossy simply because it's funner to look at when I work. Crazy how some people want to beat the one they don't like down with nonsense "facts" just because "they don't like it so others shouldn't either".

I thought an earlier post in this thread mentioned a shortcoming in the Standard-Res was that you wouldn't be able to watch a HD movie at its full resolution.

Not sure though and your comment on Blu-Ray makes sense.

It takes your eyes longer than that to adjust. When I got my bifocals, I was told it would take about a month for my eyes to adjust to my new prescription and the bifocals. That was about how long it took. I was not a happy camper for that month, but I'm glad I sweated it out. Love the new glasses. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Besides the 1680 x 1050 resolution, nothing else. If don't feel comfortable with the hi-res screen (as I didn't) then definitely go for the standard res screen. Your eyes will thank you. :)

I'm waiting for my 2011 MBP and I ended up going with the high res Glossy screen. I do photography as a hobby and thought that since I have a matte external display I would go Glossy since I won't be in PS all the time.

+1

I'm with you on this nikhsub1.

Bobby I am an ultracreative artist just like you:D, and wish more people were artistic and creative.

However in your case please ensure u wear condoms... The world don't need no more little Bobbys...

Oh and HR Antiglare all the way, I think you like glossy so much coz u love looking at your own reflection whilst using ur MB Pro...

toodaloo

Yeah it's really handy because when I am waiting for something to load I just defocus my eyes and focus instead on the glare aspect and I can stare at how pretty I am to pass the time.

Sorry for the quick, abrupt, first post...Quick question

Hello everyone!
Sorry for the quick, abrupt, first post...Quick question;

I'm getting a MBP, and need to buy by tomorrow. I'm a student and will be using it for some autodesk/autocad, watching some movies occasionally I imagine, and all the rest that computers do :p

I've decided on the 15" and I'm thinking...rather, I'm wondering if the high-res option would be good for me - ie: would autocad (or anything else besides movies) benefit the higher res. I'm familiar with screen res's on T.V. applications. I have a samsung 1080p monitor that I use for xbox 360, and I'll be hooking the MBP up to it as well I imagine to watch movies when I'm at home.
So, I have great eye sight... But I'm still not sure what to go with. And driving an hour to futureshop to try and view one (doubt they'll have a high res on display here) is not an option really before tomorrow.
Any word on OSX Lion supporting options to allow increased fon size(s) yet? It's out now...right?

Any suggestions are so much appreciated! I wonder, also, if I get the high res (gloss or anti? haven't decided - feel free to voice opinions on this as well :)) what's the exchange policy through apple? I like the idea of the anti-glare though...hmm.

Also, I'll be running windows version Autocad through bootcamp (cause our instructor will be teaching using that software and I wan't word for word explaination etc.. for things to make sense.), will that affect being able to change the resolution/I mean "font" size -- the fact that I'll be running Autocad through Windows 7??

Again, thank you so much for any help you can provide me with. I'm anxious about this purchase.

PS: would it be worth it for me to get the 2.2Ghz version with the AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB GDDR5 GPU? Or is that only necessary if you're gaming pretty HC on it, or say...doing real time rendering?

Have a good day everyone.

I personally love the High-Res Antiglare. The one thing I don't get it why 1440x900 is not and option in the display resolution settings. It's the native res on the standard MBP 15". Why would Apple not include it in the display settings?

That, my friend is actually a VERY good point/question! Seriously. Of all the "why don'ts" and stuff like that. They could have at least added the option, to the higher res MBP, to be able to 'scale' it down to the lower one.
But I think what people realize and won't admit, is that apple doesn't overlook these things, or forget, or not think of them. It is part of a strategic plan. Whether for profit or efficiency in production (which is profit too)... it's planned. Not an oversight.

Man, that's a good idea though.
If nobody else can chime in with some thoughts/help for me. I might just get the high res 2.0 Ghz, and exchange if it's "not for me" I suppose. Sigh. :)
