Returning Hi-Res Antiglare

Dude,

Even the tree in the reflection on the glossy has more vibrancy than the matte screen. Matter of fact You can see on the glossy screen where it's not reflecting that the purple fades to black way more beautifully than that dull purple and black on the AG. The image on the right looks so flat and the colors are so dull. On the left it's pure eye candy.

I can just imagine walking closer up to it and immersing myself in the screen and the reflection not even being noticeable.

As for the one on the right? I cant even stand to look at that picture. It makes me want to throw up on my knee.

All you guys getting the glossy really don't have a taste for style and fashion and eye candy and beauty. You are really missing out and destroying the full experience when going matte. It defeats the purpose of the Mac IMO. The diffusion is just too big of a sloppy filter.

It's like wearing a condom, its just not the same. Its an extra layer of protection with good intentions, but it simply makes the experience less delicious.

Wow I guess with that masterstroke you discredited all the words and sentences I used to try to communicate the concepts I tried to convey and totally just derailed my whole argument.

Congratulations! Youve emerged victorious!!!!!!!

How about I settle this discussion forever?

It all comes down to preference.

OHNOESWHATDIDIDO!?!

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. You try and work on the machine on the left.

I don't get why people show pictures where the glossy display is in worst case scenario angle. You would never work like that, and if you had to do it you would be sitting in front of it and blocking the light. It's almost like you people have started some competition as if it was AG-Team vs G-Team and trying to score points.

I just turned down my screen res because I realized i had never used my mac at a resolution lower than 1050. You certainly cant fit as much on the screen. I have very good young eyes so wow am i glad i got the hires display. Its glossy BTW and is fine. With the battery life on these suckers, you can get rid of any reflection by simply turning up the screen brightness all the way.

Just curious, did your eyes have to adjust to the hi-res glossy screen? My issue is my eyes and how it cannot adjust to the resolution. But if the glossiness alleviates the eye strain, then might consider in getting hi-res glossy. I open this question to all that have the hi-res glossy display.

the point is to show the difference between the glare and the anti-glare. I don't think anyone is saying you will always be in those conditions, but that is how much better the anti-glare is at doing its job.

I get the point of the picture, I don't get the point of the picture combined with his comment "try working on the computer to the left".

What don't you get exactly? Yes it's an extreme example for sure, but would you not be a little irritated by the reflection? Of course you can tilt the screen and/or adjust your position to deal with a light source, but that gets tiresome after a while.

Exactly, the very science of it's function tells you that anti glare degrades the vibrancy and sharpness.

You don't get the benefit of AG without the downside You have to pay for that AG ability with a reduced viewing experience. You get anti glare but its also a crappier experience.

--that is what a lot of people championing AG ignore. They completely ignore the downside.

I would only use an Anti Glare screen on Easter because it goes with the theme of washed out pastel colors lol.

I have viewed a new AG and Glossy 15" side by side. There is no sharpness degradation or loss of picture quality in the AG. As a matter of fact photos looked better in the AG display. Especially shadow detail.

In reality it's not that extreme. Anyone who has tried both would agree.

If your desk or chair has a bright window behind it the glare is very bad from the glossy display, 13" seems doable without AG because the screen is smaller. Get into the 15/17" size and irritation from the glare is hard to avoid.

If you can move your chair or desk great. But, just tilting the screen up and down won't eliminate the glare unless you tilt the screen far forward putting it at an odd reading angle.

We had a 15" glossy and a 15" AG side by side earlier today if there's a bright window behind where you're doing testing I'd bet 100% of all people would chose AG. If you're testing in an area where there's no reflections or excessive glare then I'd guess 70% would choose glossy, 30% AG .... as some people prefer no reflections under any light.

In perfect lighting conditions I find the glossy screen more pleasing to read from. Although Apple's AG screen is very very good, you can still tell there's a film on the screen, very slight but it's there.

Hope that helps.

I just went from the anti-glare to the standard res glossy, and I really do miss the anti-glare. Even only having it for a week, I am a complete believer of the anti-glare effect. If they made anti-glare in the standard res, I would be all over it like white on rice. If my eyes didn't strain as much, I most definitely would've kept it. I still have it and I have till the 10th to decide whether I can get used to it or not.

I will say that the effect in the picture too extreme. I'm currently typing this post at my college library and where the fluorescent lights are reflecting on the screen, you don't notice the reflections as you focus on whatever it is that your doing on the screen. What I still would like to look into is getting hi-res in glossy. What I'm worried about though is that if the high resolution will still affect my eyes in glossy, just like it did with the anti-glare. I will say that I am not straining my eyes as much with the standard res as I did with the anti-glare.

I will also say that one thing that I like about the standard res which goes unsaid when the hi-res is discussed is when you zoom into pages in the hi-res, all the graphics and pictures get scaled up and they look blurry. With the standard res, I never had the need to zoom in ever, and the pictures and words are easy and clear to read. Something to think about.

Yes, it's a real shame they don't offer AG on the standard screen.

I wish the 17" had resolution choices too.

Could it really hurt Apple that much? Sure, more models to keep track of but with billions of cash in the bank you'd think Apple could organize it!

If only it were that simple

:dreams of resolution independence:

Hear, hear! I would buy either a 13" anti-glare or a 15" standard res anti-glare in a heartbeat.

It's all good to discuss things we like and don't like about products on forums. So much good info.

But, don't forget to also address any concerns to hose who can do something about it, in this case > Apple http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Every request/suggestion they get many influence things we do and don't like.

I haven't had a chance to check out the high resolution model yet, but I really think that it will be too much eye strain for me since everything is smaller. My mother was right, it does make you go blind. :D:D I wonder why Apple doesn't offer the AG in the standard resolution screen? It's not like they're shy about charging for extras.

Good point, and thanks for the handy link. I will make a few suggestions :)

Well, I did the same thing and I'm quite happy with the glossy. It's reflective, true, but it's so much easier on my eyes.

Went with standard res glossy screen on my 2011 MBP. It's a gorgeous screen and can't say whether or not I'm missing the old AG screen on my 2010 model. It's a nice change, and pics in iPhoto really pop! :)
