5 iPhones later, I finally ended up with an iPhone 7 I will tolerate. There are two persistent issues I've noted with ALL iPhone 7/7+ I've seen, 14 in total:
Sound Quality Sucks
I've noticed that the iPhone 7 earpiece speaker sound quality is very poor and sounds distorted/buzzy with any amount of volume over 50% in Podcasts, music or speakerphone, so much so that I will no longer listen to podcasts or use speakerphone without a headset. This is especially frustrating to me for 3 reasons:
1) Apple should know better.
2) I use speakerphone all the time, I use my phone for work and probably used it 4+ hours per day.
3) I probably listened to 3+ hours of podcasts a day and about another hour of YouTube.
I've tested a total of 14 iPhone 7/7+ and 100% of them have had this crappy top speaker. To me, it is unusable compared to the iPhone 6. Odds are this has something to do with waterproofing, I've heard some reviews mention speaker quality issues with a Galaxy Note 7/S7 due to waterproofing. Even still, the bottom speaker of the iPhone 7 sounds fine so I find this an unacceptable excuse. But so glad it's stereo... #Lame.
Screen is Yellow
It's yellow. White is not white. It is not a snow white and if you saw snow the color of the iPhone 7 white, you would not eat it.
Phone Swap Fun
iPhone 7 #1 (S/N: F4G): Diagonal lines on screen, over heat warnings, Bluetooth issues.
iPhone 7 #2 (S/N: C6K): Dead pixel.
iPhone 7 #3 (S/N: F4G): Diagonal lines on screen.
iPhone 7 #4 (S/N: C6K): Scratch on screen, didn't even power on.
iPhone 7 #5 (S/N: C6K): No issues other than yellow screen and crappy sound, like every other 7.
Summary
It's very frustrating to me that I had to deal with this. Its even more frustrating that people give Apple a pass on their shortcomings. The speaker is entirely unacceptable. When compared to an iPhone 6 the poor sound quality is immediately apparent. The fact that I have to completely change my workflow due to a design/assembly defect is infuriating. The only reason I'm keeping the 7 is because I ended up with a iPhone 7 256GB for $650 and I'm getting $650 for my iPhone 6. The performance difference is dramatic and my 6 constantly had memory reload issues.
I don't look for issues. I'm just hyper aware of them and notice them right away. If Apple ever offered a "VIP Flawless Device Experience" surcharge, I'd pay it.
Most give Apple a pass? Please. This board is basically composed entirely of people complaining about Apple.
No, the real issue is that people give neurotic snowflakes like you a pass. You're downright obsessive, and need actual help.
If anyone should be mad at Apple, they should be mad that they tolerate nuts like you going in to swap phones a dozen times over some fictional issue.
When you go through that many phones and every one has issues? The problem isn't with the phones, it's in your own head.
Got that right, I have never had a bad iPhone and I have been using them since launch 2007
Get an android!! Your better off with that and not an iPhone dude.Every defect I've mentioned is demonstrable and observed by others. Every issue was demonstrated before replacement.
A defect is a defect.
Why? Because I cannot use speakerphone anymore because it sounds like crap now or because I saw lines in the screen when trying to watch a video?Get an android!! Your better off with that and not an iPhone dude.
I'm getting used to it. I still feel the biggest weakness in iOS is notifications. Android was really good about putting things in your face. With iOS, it's easier to miss things.I'm most surprised that you didn't like iOS 10. I think it's great and use android alongside it. Much better in presenting information than previous versions of iOS.
I did have intelliscreen and liked it; only jaikbreak tweak I paid for. I guess this will heavily depend on the number of notifications you get a day.I'm getting used to it. I still think the lock screen should continually show notifications until they are cleared. I think the notification shade has largely fixed that now, but it should be on the lock screen.
iOS 6 jailbroken with IntelliscreenX was pretty much flawless.
iOS 6 was more streamlined, but Apple has slowly added some of the best jailbreak tweaks over the years, 'coincidental' I'm sure. Every iOS has always needed a tweak to function properly. There isn't a single logical reason why I can't toggle GPS in the Control Center.I did have intelliscreen and liked it; only jaikbreak tweak I paid for. Anyway, I hadn't realized you were referring to a jailbreak tweak (maybe I missed it). From a first party release I thought it was by far the best Apple has done.
I'd love the ability to choose what I put in control center too.iOS 6 was more streamlined, but Apple has slowly added some of the best jailbreak tweaks over the years, 'coincidental' I'm sure. I had iOS 8.3 jailbroken on my iPhone 6. I had pages of toggles and quick launch apps.I'd love the ability to choose what I put in control center too.
Sounds like we are in the same pageI had iOS 8.3 jailbroken on my iPhone 6. I had pages of toggles and quick launch apps.
I still don't understand why the current call lock screen covers over notifications and GPS though. Seems like a huge oversight.
I also wish there was a way to ignore a call but not send directly to voicemail. It sucks no not be able to use the phone while someone is calling that you don't want to immediately dump to voicemail.
Intelliscreen really sucked after iOS 6. I just used JB to speed up animations, get extra toggles, remove carrier name in title bar and be able to drag my cursor around from the keyboard.Sounds like we are in the same page
I kept my 6s plus this year and am happy I did. I may get into the jaikbreak scene again just for a bit of a change of pace. And of course the added functionality.
What phone do you have now??Why? Because I cannot use speakerphone anymore because it sounds like crap now or because I saw lines in the screen when trying to watch a video?
I like iOS, I don't like defects.
How did you find so many phones so quickly?
They were all new stock. Apparently the BEST one (iPhone 7 256GB Flat Black) is available all over.LOL I was going to say, some of us are still waiting for our first, and this guys been through 5 already.![]()
That being said, I'm sure they have replacement ones in stores, in case replacements are needed and these are separate from NIB models we are waiting on.
Its just amusingly ironic.![]()
