I did the opposite of you.. i exchanged my mb for a 2.4 mbp. I was within the 14 day window. At first I was going to have to pay a restock fee... my MB had 2 small issues at the time. One being a loose battery cover and the spotlight effect on the bottom of the screen. They couldnt detect the loose battery cover, but the manager let me upgrade without restock fee anyways. I didn't tell them about the spotlight effect until after the manager approved the upgrade sans restock fee.

Overall I was pleased with my decision. I love the screen real estate and the higher quality screen on my mbp.

I dont agree with you--in the apple store you can not hold, or sit these computers on your lap or know how it's going to fit at home. It's highly unusual for any retail store to charge a restocking fee, especially when you pay this much! :)

Is it just me or are the people on this site pathetic?! You can hardly feel a 5lbs object sitting on you lap. Hell I hardly realize mine is there if I close the screen and Im watching TV. 5.5lbs is like the weight of a pair of shoes. If you cant carry 5.5lbs you need to be sterilized so we dont have pathetic people running around this earth. We have enough already.

If they ask what is wrong just say the track pad is hard to use or something. Thats not a lie because alot of people hate it. I love it but most dont.

You dont get it Mate... handling the computer with your hands all day long DOES make a difference... trust me (of course I am just referring to 15'' vs 17''..) The 17'' for travel/school gets heavy I know the # seem insignificant... but it happens I suppose the same is with the macbook & 15'' mbp

I know I'm not pathetic, and I'm one of the people on this site... so it must be just you...:)

I'm sure the restocking fee as a policy at Apple retail is at the manager's discretion... so always be very, very nice. Because exchanging a perfectly good computer after using it for a couple of weeks means it can never again be sold as new, unless it's labeled 'open box.' It goes to Cupertino, and through the refurb process, and Apple makes less money on it. So... it kind of makes sense if you're returning something that ain't broke that they do this...

Yes, but the emphasis is on 'less' money. they still make money on it, AND they keep you as a happy customer!

The restocking fee is a cost apple can absorb...

Actually, what am I talking about. They will still sell your returned machine for more than it cost them to produce - aka a profit!

It's one a few areas apple can feign some level of bargaining.

That, and display adapters! :D

You need to be a little more open minded, its not JUST weight, the dimensions between the two are VERY different and thus makes portability a real issue. It will not fit as well on the plane as a MB. Some people are built differently as well (small vs large) thus making it much more difficult for someone 5ft tall to carry the MBP pro around all day long. Personal attacks are not only unprofessional but demeaning! Calm DOWN!!!!

hi everyone! I bought a MB Aluminum PRO 15" at the apple store and want to return it for a MB 2.4 and NOT get charnged the 10% restocking fee. Im sure since I am going to a smaller size they wont waive it  Any have any ideas of a good excuse to try and get them to return it with the restocking fee? thanks!

I'll trade you my UBMB+Cash :D Save you the trouble!

hi there---where are you located? im in seattle... so you like the macbook pro huh?

I'm in Chicago IL, and yes I LOVE it. I just need something more capable for video editing/rendering/gaming. (I've gotten by just fine with my UMB so far, but I need something a bit more capable) Shoot me a PM

I used a 15 inch PowerBook all day at school then brought it home and it was not bad. I am a 14 year old.
