Wow. Sounds like you didn't get a chance to get one and now your flaming. I'm not perfect and neither are you. I do regret getting a black one and now I want to switch to a white one. Don't worry about my hassles, the question is simple, will they let me return an opened iPad 1 day old for a white one? If you can't help then move on.

There's no need to justify your decision to anyone else here. It's your money, so get what you want. If you bought it from Apple, you have 14 days to return it, no questions asked. Many other retailers have similar policies. If you prefer the white one, just go to the store and exchange it. Most stores still have some stock left.

"Clearly" the return policy isnt clear because returns have been refused all over the US. It doesnt hurt to try obviously though.

Not aware of any conditions they put on the receipt as a condition for refusing to accept a return, so if they refused, I'm sure they issue could be forced.

I am with some here, check for stock at the store first by phoning, save a drive if you can.

As for dwindling stocks etc... meh, if you prefer the black, do a swap, or even better, see if someone near you has the same model in black and is looking to change, could save you both doing a lot of annoying paperwork...

People like you ruining supplies for others. You should have gone to an Apple store to check it out first. Now you have to deal with the hassle of seeing if any in stock, gas and mileage. SMH

calm down. There are plenty in stock everywhere.

I returned my white for a black. The colors look so much better on the black.

I planned on buying the black iPad but as soon as I was about a to purchase I changed my mind to the white one. Then I was thinking... Maybe black would of been best even though the white looks nice, nut I forced myself not to exchange. To my luck, I had a DOA iPad with screen issues that showed up a few days later.. So today I swapped for a working model of the black iPad.

That's really interesting because they have to take it! I just don't see the reasoning behind it, what's funny is one of the managers at the one at Culver, works at our store now, I'm going to ask her if they do things different there lol.

West Hollywood is especially terrible. I had an issue returning a Nintendo DS there a while back and they also quoted me the same iPad return policy as well.

Btw, the only store that did end up taking my return was on La Cienega, without any issue. They also told me that they make exceptions every time they return electronics so I wont buy there either lol!

Also, anything I have ever returned was in mint condition and nowhere near the expiration of receipt time.

Good to know...I usually shop at the Target in either Weho, La Cienega or Manhattan Beach. By far, the Manhattan Beach Target seems to be the most genial...

I avoid the one in Culver City Westfield Mall because it's a pain getting in and out...(kinda like Weho)...I do sometimes shop at the one in Culver City on Jefferson, though...

It sounds to me like the managers are making up the rules as they go along...Perhaps all the managers in a certain district are "trading notes" on their policies...

Ugh, I did not give up. I spoke to a manager at the culver city, los angeles location and he would not do the return for the iPad being opened. There is another thread here from another buyer warning people since he had the same issue. Clearly there are gross inconsistencies store to store. West Hollywood, North Hollywood, culver city, and Burbank all give the same story. They won't do the return.

My new iPad was purchased at Apple, I will not shop at Target for electronics ever again.

I think Target implemented a new return policy sometime this year because when I purchased a camera during Christmas last year, opened camera couldn't be returned. Now I don't see that policy so they must've changed it.

Both have pros and cons. I can't deal with the white glowing bezel watching movies in dimmer light. I find it very annoying.

Agree with u about WeHo, I cant stand that parking lot lol.
That is interesting and definitely makes sense about trading notes, I believe it could be true.
The one on Jefferson is the one that initially would not take the return even when I requested the Manager.

Not necessarily true because people are still having problems and so far Ive heard 3 different return policies quoted. The latest being that they would be issued a store credit if opened.

No consistency means I take my business elsewhere and warn others!

If the black is issue free then I would think hard before trading for just a color and getting a lemon... Just my 2 cents...

The OP is merely taking advantage of the return policy offered by the retailer. They are not doing anything illegal or immoral. Anyway, the market is flooded with new iPads at the moment and I haven't heard of anyone who had a hard time obtaining one--at least in the U.S. and Canada.

This person's iPad will be offered as a refurb when someone needs warranty service so its not going to waste.
