It's going on 4.5 months since the unibody MBs/MBPs were introduced. I think that people should wait. Apple updates notebook about every six months on average. I think with Apple's model of two updates annually, you get the best buy as close to release as possible. Toward the end, like now, you're getting 4.5 month old technology for the same price that it cost when released. So waiting a month or two the new model will be updated CPU, possibly graphics or RAM, and other possible speed bump changes usually at same price. With this model, people should buy right when releases are made if they can wait.

This is exactly the way I feel. Why pay the same price for something now that was introduced in October when in 2 months or so, an updated version is likely to be released. This is why I'm willing to wait 3 months if necessary to get my MBP.

hmm, I'm in a tough (sorta) spot just now, I need a machine but would like an aluminium MBP and a Mini.

So what do I do buy the whitebook now, wait till the new Mini is out and the MBP gets a revision then sell the whitebook ?,... hoping it doesn't see an update before the Mini/MBP refreshes.
what to do?

I've got a rev. A AL MB and it is great. Not keys problems. The battery cover was the tiniest bit loose and I fixed it very easy. Pressed on one tab and it tightened up. I have no regrets. Got it in November less than 3 weeks after they came out. I will get snow leopard for it but as far as you I would say buy it now if you want it now, or wait if you want specs. The next revision will see updated/bumped specs, but minimal, I doubt FW will be back, and there really aren't any bugs too fix. It will most likely come before snow leopard but as new iMacs, Mac Pros and the rumored overdue revision to the Mini have yet to surface, I doubt it will be till April or May. Likewise snow leopard will probably be August to October, though it could come out June or July right after WWDC.

What's wrong with the current MBPs? I can see holding out for a new Mini, but the MBPs are nice. And if it does get a refresh in a few months, is a little more hard drive space and a minor speed bump going to make the current models seem that bad? I guess I just don't get the logic in waiting for a notebook if you need one now....

I am willing to wait hoping that they include a matte option for the 15 inch model. If they don't, I'll end up with the glossy. Also, maybe the next update includes the battery that is in the 17 inch model now. If Apple is so intent on going green, why not offer that in the 15 inch model as well now? If it's only a speed bump, I would be kind of disappointed. I don't expect prices to come down but I expect a better revision to get more people to buy...I am just going to wait and see what they update first.

Not all of us need one right now but waiting 2 months only makes sense to me at this point after waiting 4.5 since launch. Apple should boost specs and could also include their new battery technology like the poster above me said. They could quite possibly improve the charging method (the same as the 17") that monitors power levels to the battery to increase the battery life and # of recharges.

Overall a rev 2 model from Apple has always been improved in one way or another over the launch model. It just makes sense to wait the 2-3 months for that benefit considering this will be a purchase I likely won't make again for 3 or so years.

I agree. This is what I am doing. A speed bump is pretty much a given. Maybe they improve the battery and make matte an option. They have already done this with the 17 inch now. If you can wait 2-3 months, just wait and see what happens. A battery that lasts much longer would be well worth the 2-3 month wait IMO.

1st run, I'll just prefer to get one out of the second batch I guess, I'll get the whitebook for now , that's what I was saying , then sell the whitebook when the new MBP's are out.
I think the whitebook is about as good as the polcarbonate bodys are going to get so I'll plump down my $$ on one of those for now and get the MBP when it gets a refresh, just so they've ironed out the manufacturing bugs a bit more . The current gen of MBP list of issues is getting bigger by the week.New process n all. minor HD space increase and minor speed bump is not important for me, it's the quality of finished product.

Cheers for all the replies. I think i'll wait, i've had second thoughts about having to wait for a 2nd Rev MacBook, that would be a bonus, however, i'll definately be waiting for Snow Leopard until I Buy.
