Apple has started testing its revamped Maps experience in Spain and Portugal this week, as noticed by MacRumors reader Jordi Guillamet. This follows the redesigned Apple Maps becoming available in Canada late last year.

During the testing period, the updated maps will only be visible to some users.

The revamped Apple Maps experience provides more detailed views of roads, buildings, parks, airports, malls, and more, along with faster and more accurate navigation. The updated maps started rolling out in the United States in late 2018, followed by the United Kingdom and Ireland in October 2020 and Canada in December 2020.

Apple Maps enthusiast Justin O'Beirne has been tracking the new Maps rollout and has more details on his website for those interested.

+1 exactly. If the Dutch language has both Netherlands and Flemish version, why no original portugees version?! (I prefer to use the English version over the “Brazilian” version)

there is no such thing as original portuguese or brazilian. they both are the same language: portuguese. stop being racist. Portuguese people are really xenophobic. For years I played games in portuguese from Portugal and never complained. No wonder u never adopted the new "acordo ortográfico", because u need to "preserve the language".

Hey! I am from Spain, I’d like to know how do I know if I already have the new Maps, or how can I join the beta in case I don’t, thank you!

PS: the iPhone render on that image looks so sexy!

It's that kind of non sense from Apple that pisses me off.

Portugal gets "beta" of the new Apple Maps. That's great.
And yet, it's 2021 and Siri is still unavailable in a full Portuguese from Portugal form. Only Brazil.
Get your sh*#&t straight, Apple.

Dude, written language is one thing.

Oral language is another. And yes, Portuguese from Portugal or from Brazil are two very different things and Portuguese people are absolutely not xenophobic for pointing that out.
If you were correct, we would not have French from France or from Canada. Or Spanish from Spain or from South American countries.

And if you don't know the difference between written and oral, please don't join the conversation.

Yes, they are both Portuguese but they are very distinct even in writing (different words, different spellings). The language is actually much further apart than British / American English. Yet, Apple offers both. I see no reason why Apple cannot do the same for the different flavours of Portuguese.

Fully agree. Especially since the difference between European and Brazilian Portuguese is greater than between Dutch and Flemish (at least that’s how I saw it when I was learning Dutch around 12 years ago). Heck, they even differentiate Belgium’s french from France’s french! As a result I also have resorted to use Siri in English.

I have to disagree with you on that. I have some Brazilian friends and we usually just talk and message each other in English because, as the vocabulary is different, sometimes we couldn’t just figure out what the other was saying

Actually I’ve been living in Portugal since I was a kid (I was born in Brazil) and so I speak the portuguese of Portugal accent quite well and even so whenever I meet someone new here the exact moment they find out where I’m from they say “wow you speak Portuguese very well” and I’m like yeah maybe because that’s the official language in Brazil as well????? I mean, they’re both the same language and it annoys me a lot whenever I hear that but I can recognize the importance of portuguese of Portugal accent in Siri. It should’ve been included by now.

About maps: that’s great news! Can’t wait to try it.

Do you have the 3D option?
When I typed my first message no. But now that you suggested it, I switched to satellite view and there’s a 2D/3D switch button under the Info and Location arrow, on the top right corner. Is that it?

Also, previously I used to see just a blue dot to represent my position. Now, when I zoom in, this blue dot transforms into a bigger translucent blue circle. I guess I already have the new maps, thank you.

EDIT: No 3D option for regular maps, just for the satellite view.

Maybe it’s time you stop accusing someone of being racist. That is very hurtful.
