Look Around has been available in the California Bay Area (SF, SJ, etc.), Las Vegas, and Hawaii.
It's now going live for NYC and the Los Angeles, CA area as well:
Updated Apple Maps - NYC
Updated Apple Maps - L.A.

What's even weirder is I DO see them in CarPlay when on maps. Clearly tons more detail like baseball fields, etc, that don't show in the normal app.
Quoting my post since I've updated it many times. It appears that Look Around is now available in NYC and the Los Angeles areas as well.
Wow! that’s really bad. We’ve been missing many Apple Maps features here in Mexico for years (to us Apple Maps didn’t even change at all in iOS 13, it’s the same as before), but at least the map is not too outdated and driving directions are good enough and sometimes even a bit more updated than google maps. Which is already a lot, considering that Mexico seems to be the last country in the world where Apple wants to bring many of their new features and services.Lol Apple Maps is still a disaster here in The Netherlands. I just opened it on my iMac (removed it from my iPhone a long time ago, after it tried to navigate me over a motorway, even though I had selected 'walking directions') and in my city (third largest of the country) it is still a gigantic outdated mess. I looked at the city center and reported immediately 10 errors to Apple: 9 stores that are not there anymore or had changed address and 1 pin that was not correct.
Good luck Apple. I think I will start using your maps functionality again when the iPhone 111 is released.

Works here in Canada, went traveling to the UK recently and works there tooWhat about the Look Around feature or whatever it’s called? It’s very cool but seems to be extremely limited in coverage so far. Like...the SF area pretty much.

At least here in the US (and in Spain where I used it a bunch last year) I find that directions with Apple Maps are excellent and accurate.
But the places database is generally lacking. I had a similar experience to yours a few months ago trying to find a sushi place nearby me in Manhattan. Shouldn't be hard to find, but Maps led me to three different wrong places.
