What's even weirder is I DO see them in CarPlay when on maps. Clearly tons more detail like baseball fields, etc, that don't show in the normal app.

I see the details now! New England plus NYC map revamp has reached my device.

EDIT: Look Around seems to be available too (in NYC); not yet in Boston it seems though...

if any maps app can get me to actual transit entrances instead of standing on top of a terminal/tunnel, I will pay handsomely

In the NYC subway, at least, Apple Maps is great for this.

Lol Apple Maps is still a disaster here in The Netherlands. I just opened it on my iMac (removed it from my iPhone a long time ago, after it tried to navigate me over a motorway, even though I had selected 'walking directions') and in my city (third largest of the country) it is still a gigantic outdated mess. I looked at the city center and reported immediately 10 errors to Apple: 9 stores that are not there anymore or had changed address and 1 pin that was not correct.

Good luck Apple. I think I will start using your maps functionality again when the iPhone 111 is released.
Wow! that’s really bad. We’ve been missing many Apple Maps features here in Mexico for years (to us Apple Maps didn’t even change at all in iOS 13, it’s the same as before), but at least the map is not too outdated and driving directions are good enough and sometimes even a bit more updated than google maps. Which is already a lot, considering that Mexico seems to be the last country in the world where Apple wants to bring many of their new features and services.

It was even worse. I will give you an example. When I switched back from Android to iPhone in 2017 I wanted to use Apple Maps as well, you know just to keep all your stuff with Apple and I was absolutely baffled by the quality of it.

Apple Maps showed, in 2017, still offices of Fortis Bank. A bank that went bankrupt in 2008................

Yes, really.

I tried to fix Apple Maps in and around my city by reporting over 75 errors but eventually I gave up, the final nail in the coffin was the dangerous error of trying to sent me over a motorway as I described in my previous post. The errors were just too many and I felt like Apple should be fixing their own product, instead of me.

What about the Look Around feature or whatever it’s called? It’s very cool but seems to be extremely limited in coverage so far. Like...the SF area pretty much.
Works here in Canada, went traveling to the UK recently and works there too

At least here in the US (and in Spain where I used it a bunch last year) I find that directions with Apple Maps are excellent and accurate. I've gotten the odd glitch here and there but driving, traffic and transit info has all been very solid for me in various parts of the country, and I've driven probably 4,000 miles or more using Apple Maps, plus daily transit navigation in my home city. I can count the number of bad wayfinding glitches I've hit on one hand.

But the places database is generally lacking. I had a similar experience to yours a few months ago trying to find a sushi place nearby me in Manhattan. Shouldn't be hard to find, but Maps led me to three different wrong places. I reported them all and they were quick about following up, but I wish they'd invest in some good, complete business data to go along with the nice topographic improvements.

In the US Apple maps is quite okay indeed, I used it in NYC without many problems. But still, every time I used it to look something up it was like "is this info correct or is it another Apple Maps screw up?". Same with your sushi experience: you're using a Maps app to find a place you didn't know/can't find yourself! So its data should be accurate! Why would you otherwise use a maps app?

So it's fantastic that you can now use street view look around in 3 cities. But I want reliable information and navigation before anything else in a maps app! And Apple still does not provide that, even after we have arrived at iOS 13, its 8th software version after its Maps introduction in iOS 6. It's a disgrace. I love iOS 13, but will never use Apple Maps again unless something drastically changes.
