Following a promise of "later this year" in June, Apple has officially rolled out its new and updated Apple Maps in Australia.

The new Apple Maps offers richer details in roads, parking lots, parks, buildings, airports, and more, and is part of Apple's push to rival Google Maps and other third-party map services. In Australia, customers will now have access to new Apple Maps. Apple last month rolled out the revamped Apple Maps to Italy, and Spain, and Portugal earlier in the summer.

Update: Not all users are seeing the new maps yet, so it appears Apple is still in the testing phase with them.

(Thanks Ross and Phillip!)

Still same old crap resolution for my house. Certainly a later photo (within the last 2 years - wow!)- no zooming in close from above (edit: but I do have 3d view at last).

Google has a -much- older photo, but at least I can zoom all the way in and not have my house obscured by a huge blue circle.

Edit: Well that didn't last long. 3D view has gone. Seriously Apple, hire someone who knows how to run some servers.

No, it has not been updated. There are iOS 15 related minor cosmetic changes, particularly to elevation data at low zoom levels, but when you zoom in it’s the same data. Apple said the updated data was coming later this year - I suspect someone at Macrumors, who hasn’t been paying attention, assumed the generic map improvements are the ‘updated’ maps. They are not.

Still don’t trust apple maps as much as Google’s product.
Google has led me astray quite a bit lately. Plus Apple Maps are easier to navigate with imo, but it’s probably because I’m more used to it. No doubt Google Maps wins if you want to find services, businesses.

Adelaide looks more feature rich in the updated maps with buildings, parks etc., but that could just be the aesthetic In ios15.

With 25 million and counting people in this country, there are bound to be at a least 2 people who only discovered iOS15 features today......

Unfortunately even though I think Apple Maps has improved significantly, Google Maps seems to be more reliable at guessing where I want to go when I give it a voice search whether it be to Bondi Junction or Castle Towers, or even my poor attempt to remember the name of a homemaker centre (or whatever they're called nowadays).

That all being said, I wish my car would support full screen carplay. I hate having borders on the side as it just ruins the look and actually makes me revert back to my car's own factory satnav.

I'm guessing these are people who may have access to the pre-release as it is not showing up on any of my products even after a hard restart (or anyone else who has commented in here apparently)

My trick is to go to the country they say has been updated and just search for "golf courses." If you see the detail there (fairways, sand traps, etc.), then it has been updated. If not, still on old Map data.

Australia has NOT been updated...maybe only in pre-release for a select percentage of users...MacRumors needs to check or clarify this before releasing articles with these headlines.

EDIT: Also, nothing in the Australian Apple press release page.

Edit2: It's definitely in pre-release mode for select users.

Nice!

Can you try the Brighton Lakes golf course in Moorebank, NSW 2170?

And just for fun to see how wide the cover is... the golf course in Streaky Bay, SA 5680?

Lots of details in the sand traps on the southern side.

re Streaky Bay. Can't see any sand traps, but is that a joke hole? 😂

Haha, brilliant - thanks mate.
Excited for it to hopefully roll out widely soon!

(I grew up near Streaky, hence wondering how widely it was rolled out. Can't say I'm much of a golfer....)
