Last time I was there, I bought a great Apple logo coffee mug, polo shirt and other things.
Great experience, bad that you can't buy that stuff online.

I think that's just it. I think they prefer it this way. It's kinda special having a mug or shirt or notepad that you can only get from one place in the world. Think about it,if they wanted...they could sell any of these items online and everyone would buy them.

Every 3 steps you'd take on the street you'd see someone wearing it.

I'm fortunate enough to only work about 15 minutes from there,so for me I'm able to go. All those who can't,I do feel sorry for them. It's nice walking about or into a Starbucks and 2-3 people asking me where I got my shirt from. It's kinda cool.

Why don't you buy some and sell them on EBay? I would buy, and many others would too.

The Apple Shirt has only one arm hole which is rectangular. Cook assured users that this is the wave of the future and the design helps keep the shirt ultra-thin.

The ghost of Steve Jobs (via ouija board interpreter) commented, "Your arms will learn."

Before it was redesigned, the campus store only sold items like T-shirts and coffee mugs, but after the revamp, it is a full Apple Store that lacks only a Genius Bar for device repairs. The store now sells iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches, Beats headphones, and related accessories like cases and bands, but it does not offer third-party accessories.

That is straight up incorrect. I've been to that store before the redesign about 15 times in total (I wear an Apple T-shirt, jacket or hat every day of the week don't laugh)and they sold a ton of stuff. Everything a normal Apple Store had. Computers, accessories, speakers, chargers, cables, cases, iPads and even iPods. They sold it all. Half of the store was devoted to apparel and accessories but half of it was a regular Apple Store.

Employees could walk in and with a badge, get their employee discount or grab a hat if it was raining. it was pretty convenient for people working on campus that needed a charger in a pinch.

From my perspective, this "revamp" is really disappointing. I think it's sad how corporate Apple has become. They used to sell a lot of clever and cool merchandise at The Company Store. Now they think they can sell something when all they do is stamp an Apple logo on it? How original! Last thing I bought from them, about 15 or so years ago, was a t-shirt that says "I visited the mothership" (which I still have) and even that paled in comparison to some of the neat stuff they used to carry.

Also, as I haven't been to The Company Store in several years, the article may have been accurate from the point of view of just before the "grand re-opening", but it's not entirely true in that they used to sell Apple devices, accessories, and software there in the past.
Do they not have the 'mothership' shirt anymore after the remodel?

Both times I went to the Apple corporate store, it was closed. The first time, I got there too late (traffic!!!!!!!!). The second time was when they closed up shop for the overhaul. Now I'm not doing work in that area anymore. Bummer! ;)

I like this Apple one better

what better way than a better comfort, better presentation, selling hardware products as well as the usual merchandise clothing, mugs etc...

Boost business. Apple should be building more of these stores too...... if they wanna tackle building something.

I'd be happy at least coz now i would have a place to get my Apple mugs from. :D

I think this change is deeply disappointing. I visited the store earlier this year and I loved that you could get T-shirts, jackets, mugs, hats, keyrings, badge tags among other things all with the apple logo on it. My favorite thing was the T-shirt sayings like "I visited the Apple campus but that's all I'm allowed to say" or "I visited the mothership." It was the only place in the world you could buy stuff like it. If you were an Apple employee or visiting the store, you had something that fit every budget. Now the apple logo items are limited and the selection looks anemic but you can get an iPhone or macbook here just like you can anywhere else down the street or across the world. IMHO, it makes this location less unique and less of a destination. What was a cool place for the apple faithful to bring home souvenir from the a campus visit is now just like any other Apple store. :(

My thoughts exactly. What possible benefit could Apple get from turning their campus store into just another Apple retail store? People can buy a MacBook at any Apple store, or online. People went to the campus store because they could get Apple-branded stuff that they couldn't get anywhere else in the world. Now, other than the "I went to the Apple campus" bragging rights, what reason would anyone have to go there?

And the campus store also used to be popular among employees, providing an easy way to get various random pieces of (mostly third-party) gear that they needed. With the corporate discount, it wasn't too much more expensive than Fry's or Amazon, and you could pick stuff up by walking downstairs instead of driving for ten minutes each way. No third party accessories and almost no gifts to buy for family and friends means Apple employees won't have any reason to darken the door of the place.

Then again, maybe this is their way of discouraging visitors to the old campus, given how ridiculous the parking situation is with all of the main six buildings housing way more engineers than they were really designed to handle. Maybe they'll go back to having a really cool Apple campus store that people will want to visit when the new campus opens. One can only hope.

A visitor center is being built at the new campus. Once the new campus is open that's where visitors will want to go and the store at infinite loop will just be an Apple Store that Cupertino never had.

That's at least a year away, if we're lucky. What could possibly have motivated them to make these changes now, rather than waiting a year?

And yes, I know there were always complaints from visitors about not being able to pick up Macs and iOS devices at that store, but that really didn't require any more shelf space than they had already dedicated to those products. They just needed to steal some square footage for product storage so employees could go back in the back, pick up the hardware, and bring it out to the customer.

IIRC, at least historically, it was an Apple store minus the computers. They had them on display, but only for delivery, not immediate pickup. Maybe that changed recently.

I'd like to buy some of these nick knacks, wish they sold their merchandise online. So only people in Cali can get this stuff? That makes a lot of sense

"Before it was redesigned, the campus store only sold items like T-shirts and coffee mugs, but after the revamp, it is a full Apple Store that lacks only a Genius Bar for device repairs."

This is not correct. I'm sure it's much closer to a "regular" Apple Store now, but when I was there in 2011 and 2012 they sold iPads, iPods, and a few stock models of Macs. Yes, they had LOTS of logo merchandise, but to say that's all they sold is simply inaccurate. In addition to a limited selection of core "hero" products, they also carried a lot of accessories like speakers and headphones.

So? Apple is in the profit business, not in the exclusivity business. Wait a while and you'll see this stuff everywhere. If I was a major share holder, I'd want this high margin stuff everywhere if it's flying off the shelves in Cuppertino.

Exclusivity of their brand is a big part of Apple's profits. Giving away t-shirts, mugs etc would dilute a brand that has to be as exclusive as possible. Nike faced a similar problem in the 1990s when its brand became diluted, and it took them many $$$ to come back.
And a shareholder you should know that Cuppertino is not where Apple is ;)

Sent you a message.

Last time I was in an Apple Store I suggested they use reusable bags with the Apple logo on them for shopping bags. I would love to use an Apple bag for my groceries! The non-woven fabric bags are pretty cheap and considering how much a normal purchase is, it wouldn't amount to much per person.
I've got one of those white plastic Apple bags. Recycled fabric would be cool now-a-days.

IFFFF i were a shareholder. I am not.

Ha!! I'm just across the bay and I didn't even know this store even existed until this remodel hit the media. Hmmm maybe I'll swing by and grab a mug or t-shirt.

Apple likes to create this kind of "special feel".
This kind of stuff will not be everywhere. If you want merchandise like this, you need to get it at the Apple HQ.
