The one time I've used it with Siri it didn't make the noise. Using the home app and chamberlain app it does make the noise. I'll double check

Thank you, but that is the device that was reviewed in this article. This alone just adds wifi connectivity via the MyQ app. The $50 MyQ Home device is needed in addition for homekit connectivity.

Ya supposedly the mystical MyQ Garage 2.0 will combine all this into one box. But don't hold your breathe - it was over 2 years just to get the homebridge finally released (and a lot of lying/attempted coverup on chamberlain's part).

"Luckily" I needed to replace my gdo anyway so it was a no brainer to get a nice quiet myq one with battery backup and add on this $49 job for homekitness.
Already available for sale

For those of us with 2-car garages (thereby two openers), let me guess: I need two of each of these items? Sadly, mine are from 2006 even before this "iPhone" thing came around, so I'd need 2 of each? Even at Amazon prices, that's $300. Holy crap... I think I need to pay some other credit card and medical bills for my kids, first...
Nope, You only Need one. What Brand of Opener do you have ?

Nope! Just a second door sensor! Really easy and cheap

For anyone that has a Liftmaster / Chamberlain Garage Door Opener that is from 1998 or Newer They do Not need the MYQ Garage Kit. They need the Liftmaster 888LM Wall Botton & the MYQ Home Bridge, That It.

Screw Chamberlain. They announced HomeKit support a couple years ago and a "free upgrade" to current customers that bought the MyQ back then. When it was finally announced this year, Chamberlain said all customers have to buy new MyQ hardware and NO free upgrade. I won't spend another dime with them.

Here's the Facebook posts that they removed when they went back on their word:

https://myqcommunity.chamberlain.com/chamberlainmyq/topics/homekit-update-1-6-16
QFT. This was advertised and promised and honestly should be worthy of a class action suit. I don’t care that they couldn’t solve it in firmware. They should have created a fulfillment program to send us all the bridge units for free.

You keep linking to this, but it’s not homekit compatible...
Then there's the updated version of this one that is coming out soon. Was announced along with the home bridge at CES back in January. So should be out soon. Search the PDF file of the announcement about January 4th. look it up under liftmaster as well.

There is a chamberlin model as well but with a different part number. Search it.

oh, so..... does it open both doors at the same time? or how does it know which door to open? Looks like the bridge just emits the RF signal like the car openers, versus wired-in like the pad on interior pad on the wall.

or let me guess, new fancy openers these days don't have a wired pad on the wall anymore and they all use CR batteries and RF? it's been over 10 years, man, since i last installed one of these!! :) Last I remember, the wall pads were wired into the outlet up in the ceiling that also fed power to the machine, and also wired into the emergency/safety sensor on the floor at bottom of the track. A very analog system. :) But hey, sometimes analog works best!
I'll have to double check, but I think my wall units are wired.

Once I powered up my bridge, the setup process involved adding each opener to the bridge separately. You basically use the app to "add" a new opener then press the learn button on the actual opener. The two communicated, and I even received a confirmation from the opener in the form of a flashing light. I named each one based on their size. Really, you could name one "Pod Bay Doors" and then instruct Siri to, of course "Open the Pod Bay Doors". :)

Once you add each opener, they show up separately in the Home control center:

One other note... The openers originally appeared in a "New Room" in the Home app. I had to go into the Chamberlain MyQ app and assign them to "Garage" so that HomeKit would label them properly.

That's why I'm wondering if having the Watch on makes a difference. I 100% agree with the need to authenticate in the event the phone is stolen, but the authentication is exactly what the Watch provides without needing to interact with it.

Basically, putting it in terms of logic:

if (enter geofence AND (Apple Watch on/unlocked OR Touch ID used on iPhone)) then (run automations)
Even when my watch is on and Authenticated, I receive the alert on the watch asking if I'd like to run the geofenced scene. I then have to tap "Run" or "Don't Run". It's not automatic.

I ordered mine earlier this week. For those that already have it does the beeping noise when closing it really aggravate you? I live in a townhouse and don't want my neighbors mad when I leave for work at 0530 every morning LoL
Not really... I think the previous poster was exaggerating. It beeps for 7-10 seconds, then closes. A handy feature if there's ever a kid or handyman under the door!

If it’s not even out then why do you keep replying with the incorrect link and even saying “already available for sale”?

It’s misinformative and not helpful.

Disregard the sale link. I was just going by memory of what I read 2 months ago. But there is a my q garage 2.0
I went through the hassle of finding you the liftmaster link showing the combo unit. I couldn't find the chamberlain one anymore, but it's the same thing.
Thanks for being unappreciative.
I just signed up on this forum to help you out. Didn't expect to get chastised.
Google is your friend. I didn't think I had to do all the work for you. It's coming out for sure though. There I went again trying to help out someone who doesn't deserve it.

You posted multiple times with inaccurate info and insisting that the product already supports HomeKit when it doesn’t.

Thanks, appreciate you trying to help

I asked this in the Homekit forum, but I’ll ask here too. Can this use a geofence to open the garage door when arriving home WITHOUT having to interact in the phone if the user is wearing an Apple Watch? I understand needing to have some level of auth involved with geofencing, since you obviously don’t want someone who stole your phone to just be able to walk up to your house and it opens, but since the Apple Watch is always authenticated until taken off, does wearing it remove the auth step?

I’m really interested in getting one of these, but only if I can achieve the holy grail of you, and only you, showing up to your house and the doors opening up automatically and securely, and the Apple Watch seems like the key to making this a reality.

Great question! I have the setup described in the article, and am running the iOS 11 Beta, as well as have an Apple Watch Series 2. In my experience, when you hit the geofence, it does prompt you to authenticate on the phone with Touch ID or a passcode, but I was kind of expecting it, so I didn't even look at my Apple Watch. I'll have to tweak my settings and try it with the Watch and get back to you.
[doublepost=1504153558][/doublepost]Just curious, but I have the setup as described in the article, and I had a difficult time getting everything set up. I finally got it to transfer the opener to the new bridge, but am having it show the old bridge and a duplicate garage door that are both non responsive in my Home app (see the attached photo). It's not a big deal, but just more annoying. I tried getting rid of the non responsive door and bridge, but it seemed to then throw the whole set up into chaos, forcing me to restart the setup from scratch again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sadly I was not exaggerating in the least. Incredibly obnoxious. It is important to note that the behavior and the volume has nothing per se to do with the homebridge product being reviewed here. The speaker is in the GDO itself so it's going to vary by model and even by revision of certain models as chamberlain has changed the speaker over the years.

The myq GDO I bought and installed last week is the Lw9000wf (ironically listed as featuring ultra-quiet operation, lol). And the belt noise is indeed incredibly quiet! However the speaker alarm is incredibly loud and piercing and easily audible in my neighbor's house (I checked). It does not stop after a few beeps of warning but rather continues the entire time the unit is closing - absurd.

Again, other openers are likely to vary in volume and potentially duration. You don't have to take my word for it - there are plenty of threads on this you can find searching google where people have clipped wires, shot hot glue into the units, etc in order to quiet or silence them. Luckily for me my unit just needed the loose plastic cap pried off and the little free floating speaker disc came out with it. Now it makes what sounds like a loud turn-signalesque clicking sound together with the light flashing 8 or so times - perfect warning before the door starts to close any time of day.

Once you add each opener, they show up separately in the Home control center:

Ahhh ok, makes good sense. So via Control Center I can open one door or the other manually? Via Siri, can it just open the one door (named "Pod Bay") and not the other door (e.g., named "Wife's Door"; teehee, giggle giggle)? If both doors open via Siri command, that would be a little annoying. However, I'm also more interested in a full rip-and-replace to get the newer pseudo-quiet openers instead, since these old ones are loud and chain-driven.

The beeping is horrible and incredibly loud; at least 90 decibels. Picture a truck backing up, and multiply the volume by two. I avoid using it early morning because my neighbors would probably throw a fit.

It makes the beeping sound with or without Siri. It's a UL requirement, and there is no Siri exception.

Since you give each opener a name, you can control them individually.
My openers are chain drive, but I really like the belt-driven ones.

Ahh... okay. I guess each model of opener is different. Sounds like mine is the least annoying!

They were charging $37 to ship it here to Hawaii! "Luckily" they screwed up order fulfillment and many of us that ordered on launch day got delayed shipments by 7-10 days so they comped shipping for us.

I believed this BS when I purchased my HomeKit enabled MyQ. I relied on there promise that at a future date they would update our units to achieve the level of performance that this now required bridge provides. Obviously, we relied on their written commitment to our detriment. Now we have to purchase an additional device to make it work as they said their no cost update would allow. I think there is a case here for a Class Action suit against Chamberlain for breach of implied warrant and performance at no cost in the future. Their written assurance you cite is as good as contract to at some point in the future enable this capability at no cost.

Ok, any lawyers out there who can light a fire under them?

At a minimum they should provide this hardware purchase free or reimburse those who have to purchase it.

The implication here is that the hold up is Apple, that is highly unlikely since Chamberlain has "been working" on HomeKit for two years. And now that Apple has announced a software based path to HomeKit authentication this delay speaks to the lack luster effort at Chamberlain. This software path is exactly along the lines of what Chamberlain previously promised for free, and now that Apple has done the actual work and changed their policy Chamberlain could find themselves in court.

https://www.macrumors.com/2017/06/08/apple-opens-up-homekit-platform-to-developers/

My guess which is that once again Chamberlain and Liftmaster will be pretending shipping of the Smart Garage Hub is imminent at CES 2018?
