i would get one if I could replace the batteries myself.
I’m pretty sure Chipolo has already considered that. As a company, they know they can make more money off selling entirely new units v.s. just a replaceable battery. By having the consumer purchase an entirely new unit, is what continues to make their business grow.

I don’t suspect this product will be a really around for years to come, as there’s already ‘other’ competitor products and this is more of a micro planet that really doesn’t have a major following.

Can this one be shared? I.e. multiple persons in a family sharing group tracking a single Chipolo CARD Spot.

I try to leave my cards at home and use Apple Pay, I don’t drive but with secure Gov ID coming to iPhones maybe wallets will start to disappear from our lives.

I appreciate the effort but it's still too thick. It'll always be too thick. That's because it's the wrong approach. The wallet itself should be an AirTag. I'd like to see the next generation of Apple's MagSafe wallet have an integrated AirTag.
That wouldn't make much sense. The whole idea of AirTags is their versatility and portability.

Ordered two of these last year when they were available for pre-order. Was told they would ship in February. Well, February is basically over. March is here. Now I see the article says shipping in April. Hmm....

Chipolo - where are my cards???

Just waiting on my Tile Slim to die, the app says I activated it on 19 October of 2019, yes, 2019. Supposed to last 12 months, I'm on month 28? I seriously just checked it, app says its fine, no battery or re-tile alert, and I told it to find my wallet and it buzzed fairly quickly.

The non-user replaceable battery is a significant downside for me. Having said that, if the CARD Spot fits into a standard luggage tag holder, it could be a less expensive way to keep track of bags and suitcases than an AirTag + AirTag holder in the short run.
The trade off is clearly for a thinner design, it's sealed inside and you can't change the battery. I would also choose as thin as possible, because to be honest this is the only draw back to me.

A new competitor called AirCard does have replaceable batteries, and also works with Apple Find My network:
AIRCARD QUESTIONS

1. what is that round indention?

2. the "switch" at bottom, to open case? Can't be power switch cause why would one turn it off.

I thought I remembered someone was releasing one with replaceable batteries. I have never heard of the company however, but I wish them luck. I think I put my email in for the preorder previously, I tried just now and couldn't get the web site button to work.

TILE has replaceable batteries, but after the first year you have to pay $30/year to have the capability of someone with iPhone walking by your lose wallet and you get notified. See my post on page one of thread.

BTW: The pre-orderbutton worked for me as I was writing this reply.

One more point....Pre-order for the AirCard starts (opens up again?) late February (isn't it late Feb?), but those are pre-orders. No telling at this point when the AirCard ships.....and how trustworthy is the ship date?

I had hoped that by now there would be more third party items in the Find My ecosystem.

That looks interesting, but have already pre-ordered the Chipolo.

All the items in the Find My ecosystem work the same.

Do you drive?
Do you constantly crash into things?
Do you wear a seatbelt even though you don't constantly crash into things?

Keep patting yourself on the back for being better than anyone who has ever lost something.
Wow. Hostile? Angry? Who took the jelly out of your donut?

I received an email today from aircard:

Hey Guys! Here is another update about
AirCard

So far, our product plan has been approved by
Apple's MFi program, and the pre-production
units are under testing, waiting to be sent to
Apple's laboratory.

Even though we are progressing steadily
towards certification and production, we can't
open pre-orders until the tests are completed
and AirCard is officially certified by Apple, so
we have moved the ETA for pre-orders
opening to March.

This isn't Apple's fault: it's a normal process
that all MFi certified products have to go
through. Our engineers were simply too
optimistic with the expected timeline

Regardless, as this process takes place, we
are working hard on all other fronts, so by
the time we open pre-orders, the period until
we start to ship out will be significantly
shorter!

There is then an invite to their telegram group, I don’t know what that is so won’t post the direct link.
