The idea of wireless sounds great, but with the tech today, it's an all round worse product in every way only to save you a couple of seconds not to have to connect a plug to the phone.
Well, every journey has to start somewhere. Wireless charging as of today may not be perfect or for everyone, but if you want to get there some time in the future, you need to start gathering real-live experience. People and markets need to be given time to adopt to something new - cultural changes often need to be slow in order to be successful in the long run.

This is about far more than about saving a few seconds from not having to plug in a device for charging. Think of the possible ubiquity of charging options without the hassle of carrying a cable with you. Not shattering your phone coz the cat tripped over that cable again.

And - I do admit - the sheer convenience is indeed just great (even a few seconds can make a difference, when accumulating day-in, day-out). And for many, no matter if old, dizzy, tired or in low-lighting conditions, wireless charging can provide a real advantage indeed.

As for environment: By your argumentation, Battery-Electric vehicles should not be purchased and driven yet, as they‘re far from being the perfect be-all, end-all solution. But you have to start somewhere.

Besides: Apple is said to be working towards a device with as little moving parts and ports as possible. Wireless charging is mandatory for this scenario.

I’ll take one without the led lights please. My devices already tell me it’s charging.

Wireless charging is still not there yet in efficiency and price. I’m sticking to my fast, cheap, and more efficient wired charger. Now I have been trying my best to reduce my carbon footprint there is no way I’m buying something that waste energy.
Wrong. Anker has plenty of durable inexpensive wireless chargers.

I never understood the obsession for flat charging stations with their inherent alignment issue.

Vertical docks work 100%, never worry about alignment issues again, period!

I was thinking of purchasing it but the price was too high for me. But Nomad just sent a email to me with a 30 dollars discount because I left it on the cart. So if you plan on buying and want to save, wait a couple of days!!

“0.5 inches thin”

...yeah, and I’m 6’ 4” short.

Came here to say the same thing. "X thin" is not traditional English; it's marketing speak and it sounds ridiculous. A review should not be regurgitating marketing materials.

Besides, let's be consistent. It's either "8.7 inches long, 5.5 inches wide, and 0.5 inches thick", or it's "8.7 inches short, 5.5 inches narrow, and 0.5 inches thin".

The stand up ones are easier for my cats to knock the phone off. Never had an issue with the flat discs. Plus I can use one Qi for both my airpods and my phone.

If you bothered to actually read my post instead of succumbing to your bite reflex, you could have known that there could be valid reasons for both non-Qi-Standard Watch charging originally and now. And I also wrote that I expect Apple to eventually switch to full Qi charging over time.

But of course its more hip to bash Apple blindly and suspecting foul intention everywhere, instead of considering potential reasons other than evil acting.

Having the guts to do so in this forum must be rewarded, though: Here‘s your fish <*>>><
Pot calling the kettle black.
You might want to read the comment you were originally replying to, which said:
It's really unfortunate that the Apple Watch isn't Qi-based for charging. I

My comment was simply highlighting that (1) it is Qi based, simply locked down by Apple (2) It's been five years. Apple could have switched to a standard solution years ago but probably aren't because that's just who Apple is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sorry I offended your pretty feelings :'(

Hi, did you reply to the right person? I haven’t replied or messaged you before. I don’t understand how you could have offended me since this is the first time I see a message from you. My entire comment was one big question for everyone? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Haha @darkslide29 , sorry, I was indeed not replying to you, I was replying to someone else that replied to you and I quoted your original post :)

I like Logitech’s wireless charger a lot. I like the phone to be vertical so if notifications come in I can see them.

Actually, vertical docks have the most severe alignment issues of all, to the point of making them unusable. Try charging some AirPods on that vertical dock and you’ll see what I mean.

no they don’t. I’ve been using Logitech’s for a while now. They are no easier or harder to align than horizontal.

It's really unfortunate that the Apple Watch isn't Qi-based for charging. Is this limitation due to the size of the Apple Watch? Or was Apple simply looking to sell high-priced proprietary charging cables? The watch was their first wireless charging device. If the watch could have been made Qi-based, they must be kicking themselves a bit since it canceled their own high-priced charging station.
The Apple Watch charging puck uses magnets for perfect alignment. That is at least one aspect that would interfere with standard Qi. Additionally, because a lot of bands prevent laying down the Watch flat on a surface, the vast majority of Apple Watch chargers use a vertical charging 'surface' (which again probably wouldn't work that well without the magnets). Apple Pencil 2 also uses magnets for perfect alignment.

Perhaps that’s because of the inherent “can topple over when you (or your cat) bump into the table and fall down” danger of upright chargers.

Interesting, I guess owning a cat complicates issues. I've owned a few types of vertical docks and never had an issue with it toppling but I don't own a cat. There are some with better support as well, such as Tylt:

What a joke I bought a wireless charging stand from Costco for $35.00 - it charges my Apple Watch iPhone and AirPods wirelessly PLUS it's a stand so I can watch the videos while it's on the stand on my desk or beside my bed. LOL $230.00 suckers!

FYI, this wireless charger is currently not compatible with the iPhone 12 Pro. Hopefully a firmware update will come out for it to address the issue.
