The market for this is possibly commercial establishments, business lounges, cafes and similar hospitality businesses, perhaps more than for individual consumers. However, even this does sell for more than the ~$150 typical of the “put it anywhere” multi-coil Qi charging surfaces found in many such places (Zen “Puk”, for example).

There are arguably better solutions that cost less, already.
 
Interesting, I guess owning a cat complicates issues. I've owned a few types of vertical docks and never had an issue with it toppling but I don't own a cat. There are some with better support as well, such as Tylt:

No one who has a cat claims they own one precisely because they will rub right where the overhang is and send that phone to the floor. To a cat every feature of a phone can be replaced with the cat.
