I just got these and they are great...colors arent ideal, but you don't notice it much as barely even sticks out (about couple mm's) just enough for that there is a ridge so that you can pull it out with a fingernail....which is MUCH less than how a regular SD card sticks out.

I'm thinking of buying one but sure about them. Is there no chance they'll get stuck?

It wont have anymore or less chance than a regular sized SD card thats for sure. It sticks out just a bit enough to have a recessed grove (for a fingernail or something equivalent) to pull the card out. Yeah, its not flush, but to me its flush enough. I got 3 for $20, so I can give one to a friend and still have a spare.

Ill try to post a pic in a bit.

The blue doesn't look too bad. I'll think about it. Thanks for the pic!

Do those corners get caught when you slide your laptop in or out of a sleeve? Seems like rounding off the corners with a file might be a good idea.

I havent had an issue myself...but your idea does sound good.

Thanks!

Hmmmm ... was just going to order this and it looks like they are all out on Amazon of the Air versions.

Yea - I read somewhere that they get snagged if you put the laptop into a case/ bag. Not a problem if you never move your laptop from your desk I guess, but that kinda defeats the point...

Edit: I guess that you can see how it sticks out above.

Yeah, might as well just get the regular SD card if you're going to use this.

So I purchased a 2012 air after the keynote at a discounted price and They didn't have the option of a bigger SSD when I ordered. Anyways how have these things held up since they came out?

how does the speed stack up against a standard mechanical 5400 rpm drive or 7200 rpm drive. I know it wont touch ssd performance.

Speed of the "drive" is solely dependent upon the speed of the Flash memory. The Flash memory is the bottleneck, not the "drive". As far as performance, I bought a fairly fast one and it "feels" to be about half speed compared to a mechanical drive. However, for storing my MP3's, it is completely adequate (just takes awhile to get them copied to the drive). I wouldn't trust it for any kind of mission critical storage. I actually use a cut up SD to MicroSD adapter that I bought off Ebay for 3.15, but it works just the same.

Disagree- have you seen just how far an SD card sticks out?? It's much more than this. Also, I like the idea of having a small lip to grab onto to remove it if needed (to reset for example).

Not the PNY card I linked to above.

The internal SD card reader is on the much faster PCI bus, not a USB kludge.

Yes but MicroSD storage doesn't go anywhere near the speed limit of USB 2.0 let alone 3.0.

----------

These just got announced, don't think they are shipping quite yet.

Interesting to note it appears as a regular hard drive, not an SD card, meaning the issue of having it plugged in when the laptop turns on is solved. Wonder how they managed that.

How do you figure? It's a regular SD Card, they just reduced the form factor so that it doesn't stick out as much as a standard-sized card.

Don't buy TheMiniDrive!!!

I loved this at first. it fits perfect and with a 32 G micro connected you almost have a spare hard drive.

Then I took it out a few times to copy files over to another PC. TheMiniDrive has now broken open. The thing split it two!

Don't waste your money on this product.

Seems legit.

Looks like a webshop for a store in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The site mentions the KvK number. This a number needed by the Chamber of Commerce to run a business in Holland, so from that end it looks legit.

I bought the Nifty Drive and then Jettison to auto eject when my MBA goes to sleep.

Unfortunately Jettison did not work (I'm on OS X 10.9 Mavericks) and despite emails back and forth with St Claire Software we couldn't work out why I still kept getting the OS X message "Disk Not Ejected Properly" when my MBA was woken. Given that I requested a refund and won't be using the Nifty Drive. :(

Remind me: why did you need Jettison?

I have a mini drive with my iTunes library on it and it's permanently in the machine....

From what I understand Jettison is used to dismount the SD drive rather than having to eject it manually to enable the MBA to go to sleep when the lid is closed. From what I've read if you don't dismount/eject the drive your MBA won't go to sleep.
