$350 and up for wireless headphones that dont sound as good as $125 ATH-MX50? No thanks. BT still has a way to go before it can compare to the good old cord. Adding noise cancellation doesn't improve the sound. All its doing for me is draining the battery faster. Hopefully someday BT will improve, NC will be more standard, and the price will drop below $200.

I honestly don't care about the sound.
I run a white-noise app on my QC25 when I use them. Music would distract me too much.

They're both aiming for the same market for sure: Headphones that sound clear and lifeless but look like ****.

another review i've read despised the touch controls, stating accidental play/pause as soon as he took them on/off, or worse put them around the neck. anyone has an experience to share?
I own them, had them for about 6 weeks of constant travelling.

The touch controls - overall I love them, they work as expected and are very useful. However also can be easy to accidentally pause if you brush your right ear unintentionally

Edit:Just thought I'd add that I'm really happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend these to anyone looking at the Bose

$50 more for:
  • Less battery performance that the QC35 (QC35 20/40 vs PXC 550 20/30)
  • Same ANC
  • Arguably uglier design
  • Bigger storage case
  • Non-replaceable battery

o_O Why would anyone do this?
/4ubrey reads posts
/selectively chooses points to suit narrative
/ignores rest of post detailing positives about the Senn cans
/poses silly rhetorical

Choices. Choice is why someone would choose these cans.

having owned the corded Bose QC i ask: do these senny too have a noticeable change in sound eq when going from active NC to passive(NC disabled)?

that's what annoyed me most of the Bose, once you get used to the sound they have when active, in passive mode they sound too muffled.

To be honest i've had NC enabled 80% of the time. For other 20% of the time I didn't notice a difference in sound quality... I mean, you can tell that NC has been disabled but I don't think it impacted sound quality at all.

The battery situation is a deal breaker... unless iFixit introduces a solution.

Slightly off at a tangent, but I wish airlines would adopt a consensus about the use of BT headphones in flight. It's been permitted on all flights I've taken since I got my QC35s but on a Finnair flight this week I was asked to stop using them as they weren't permitted. No problem, thinks I, I'll just use the 3.5mm cable that Bose supply to use them wired. Plug one end into my headphones, the other just needs to go into the headphone jack on my iPhone 6S..... oh bugger.

QC35 battery is also non-replaceable. I saw that somebody asked Bose about their policy for battery replacement, and it seemed to be if you send in your QC35's they'll sell you a new pair at half RRP. Ouch!

I was worried about that too. But over the last 6 weeks ive caught about 10 flights in Europe and wasn't questioned once, and used them wirelessly the whole time. I even had my bs story ready in case a flight attendant questioned me, in which I'd tell them that I was simply using the noise cancellation and not playing music wirelessly.

Although a few airlines did make you take off all earphones/headphones during takeoff and landing so that you can hear the safety announcements.

I've found most airlines I fly with actually now say you can use them in their guides or on their websites, as long as your phone can still be in airplane mode with just BT turned on. There's still a lot of inconsistency and nonsense surrounding headphone use on flights though, I think it's Aer Lingus who allow earbuds to be used during take off/landing but not earphones.

[Edited to add:] I tweeted Finnair and asked them to confirm their policy, and they said that BT headphones are not permitted in flight. However, I've just looked on their website which says they are! https://t.co/I4izkfocQo.

Looking forward getting the PXC550. Looks like a solid headphones. I like the Bose but they have not upgrade the design and I think this one looks sharper. Plus I have a wired Sennheiser and their sound is spectacular.

So many things to figure when it comes to BT headphones and noise cancelling.

I'll just say I have no doubt that Senn' can go 1 on 1 with Bose.

As for myself, I would welcome these on trips where I might listen to an audio book. BT presently isn't the greatest when it comes playback of better quality music files. AptX might improve the sense of sound but it is no where near what "CD quality is." Fortunately for others, they don't hear the difference so BT headphones makes people smile and in the end, that's all that matters (to them).

I just tossed my Sennheisers in favor of the Bose 35s and have never been happier with noise canceling Bluetooth headsets.

Longer battery life, better noise cancellation on an airplane, faster Bluetooth response and higher quality sound - oh and easier to pair. Could never get the Senns to pair with my watch.

My new favs are the parrot zik series. I own the 2.0's and they sound fantastic and come with a ton of features

I really like the Parrot Zik 2.0's - I just wish they had better battery life. That said, they're the only ones in the top tier with a user-replaceable battery.

Just got hold of a pair of the new Sony MDR-1000X cans. The NC bar may well have just been raised a notch. Hopefully have a review up soon...
