It does indeed work just fine without the faceplate. It is disappointing that they are not planning to sell a 'naked Atmos X4' option. Thanks for asking, though!

I really didn't like the "spare parts" reference.

I'm not interested in the faceplate, so they basically lost a sale. Hopefully, they reconsider and sell it separately like Speck does.
 
Hey, good news everyone! Thule is sending me the revised Atmos X4 faceplate--I should get it by next week and my updated Atmos X4 review will follow. So happy that they are fixing this issue!

It seems to me that Aaron at Mobile Reviews Eh tried the X4 faceplate with the X3 and it didn't work. I can certainly try it as well, though. Also, the changes they have made to the faceplate may make a difference in its fit or lack thereof on the X3.
So excited to be getting the revised faceplate!
 
Out of curiosity, is it possible to use the integrated screen protector with a tempered glass protector already on?
It would be the ideal situation for switching cases (and putting / removing the faceplate).

I really don't know. The only experience I've had with trying to put an integrated screen protector over an already installed screen protector (in that case, a Tech21 Impact Shield) did not go well. It stuck oddly to the integrated screen protector and caused unpleasant visual effects. Perhaps a tempered glass screen protector might behave better, but I really don't know...

I've been thinking about this question more, and I think it is possible that having a tempered glass screen protector underneath the integrated screen protector could lessen the protection of the integrated screen protector. The glass screen protector would keep the plastic rim of the integrated screen protector from sitting on the iPhone screen, so that when an impact occurred, it wouldn't be able to perform its role, if any, in protecting the screen. I'm just speculating, here, but it seems like it might be a possibility...

I bought the Atmos X4 and love it, however the screen protector drove me crazy cuz I couldn't use the control center, swiping from the bottom was just impossible. I emailed Thule myself and asked if they were making a revised screen protector and if so could I get one, I was basically told I'd have to buy a new case. Not the response I wanted, kinda disappointed by that.

I asked Thule, on Twitter, if they were going to make the case available without the protector. Speck does that with their cases. They told me, "they don't sell spare parts". I didn't much like how they responded to me. Not that they weren't going to make available this way, but the "spare parts" comment.

They should provide you with the revised version. That would be outstanding customer service. Maybe they aren't interested in that kind of customer experience? That's too bad.

That's disappointing, and surprising. I'd try their customer service again once the new screen protectors are out. From what I've heard from Thule, that will be sometime in early October. Right now, customer service doesn't have any fixed screen protectors to give out, so they can't do much to help you. Also, maybe you got somebody on a bad day. Usually, their customer service is extremely helpful. So sorry you've been having trouble with your Atmos X4, but I can understand your frustration with the screen protector issue. Hopefully the new screen protector, if I ever manage to get one to test, will be a big improvement in that area and Thule will do the right thing by early adopters.

I am still waiting for the new screen protector from Thule for the X4. It has been nearly a month since my contact said he'd send a revised version out to me, and I have yet to receive it. Very frustrating! The last I heard, though, the new version was supposed to be in stores in October...

FYI I did a search on Twitter for Thule Atmos X4 and some third party resellers stated they have the revised version in stock (LLBean for example) and I also seen a comment on Amazon stating they had some they'd send out to anyone who ordered from them and requested the revised version.

I currently have a Ballistic Tough Jacket and the corners are so well pronounced and significantly raised from the screen that I've fell in love with that case however I don't like how it grabs the pockets of gym shorts and it has a tendency to grab stuff while being removed from my jeans. I've dropped this from over four feet face down with no screen protector and zero issues. Well, I did have one other issue with the plug covering the Lightning port and I just removed that and I did keep this in a plastic bag when I was at the beach.

Due to my issues I'm always looking for something better and I frequent http://www.mobilereviews-eh.ca and here for real reviews and I've been watch this thread for a while.

Hopefully you'll get the revised version soon as tons of people are actively shopping for newer and better cases :)

I hope so too! I think it is an outstanding case--one of my very favorites--and once they have fixed this crazy control center thing, it should be truly stellar.

OK, so an update--apparently the revised screen protector should be shipping to me from Thule any day now--quite exciting!!

Also, do you know if the case fits the 6S comfortably? Wanted to grab it for my new 6S next week.

The revised screen protector arrived yesterday, and I haven't put it on yet, but I will hopefully get a chance to shoot a review video with it this afternoon. I'm having new gutters and downspouts installed on my house today, so it is quite noisy at times and may interfere with my video plans, but I'll get it out as soon as possible, and will, of course, post here!
