Bugger. Bought my iPad in Jan this year but it's the older model. Slightly let down. What makes someone else's £550 better than my £550?

I'll have a complain in the Apple Store tomorrow.

how can i tell if my ipad 2 16gb 3G has the better battery?

I've heard lots of different methods, but the only one to work for me was to buy Geekbench. Run a benchmark and it'll tell you at the end.

It's called inflation.

I have both iPads here (2 and 3) and must say that for me it doesn't matter how much better the battery life of the improved iPad2 is I won't use it. I am reading a lot of PDF files and since I got used to the retina screen I just can't go back. Those pixels on the old iPad are HUUUGE! Horrible! On the other hand the battery of the new iPad lasts more than one day that's more than enough for me.

So the thing i don't understand is they figured out how to make the a5 process on a smaller chip? Can they do this same process with the a5x? Why didn't they do this for the new iPad? Don't know much about how to make chips or sizes of them to know anything on this subject but would it be possible for them to use the a5x in the new iPhone? If it was made on a smaller chip of cause(as of now its way too big to put into an iPhone and power hungry).

As anandtech pointed out, it makes sense to test a die shrink on a known SoC, which is also quite low on shipping volume.

For a forum called "Mac" rumours there doesn't seem to be that many Mac rumours...

When this forum was founded, the company they discussed was Apple Computer Inc. Their products were computers.

Having nearly faded into oblivion, the company morphed into an entertainment company via the iPod, with Apple selling content through iTunes. Computers were secondary. Profits were much higher selling small easy to use devices. Profits are so much higher than computers, they became addicted to amassing cash & thus devices became the primary focus.

Apple brought back pitchman Steve Jobs, widely regarded as the worlds best salesman. Fast forward a few years and the name of the company was changed. A cleverly calculated move designed to send a clear signal they were focused on mass marketing. As Apple Inc, the new name was revealed, they had already begun to dominate in consumer entertaiment. Creating the iPhone, it could entertain with music and other types of content. With a small touch screen & browser, web access was also possible.

Getting into the present day business with a tablet and iPhone they've built a base of followers that are eager to buy nearly anything with an Apple logo. It's hard to do any better than that.

So an Apple A5X-R2 32nm would be 57% the die size and 15-30% more battery life. About a $15 part cost savings per unit.

Given a $499 price and 50% gross margin that's 15/250= 6% cost reduction. While improving battery usage and heat expression. That's cool. ;)

You have to run Geekbench to see if your iPad 2 wifi only is a 2,4.

Rocketman

I just wonder if later this year, Apple will try slide in 32nm new iPad revisions 0 with same huge battery they will probably have top of tablet battery life list.

New iPhone processor

My guess is that iPhone 6 will be A6 or possible 32nm version of A5X

But who knows they could update iPhone 4S with 32nm chips

While phones are awesome...I miss those days. I signed up for for MacRumors over 10 years ago in a public library, when G5 rumors were still fresh. It's almost disappointing to know Intel's roadmap now.

Should run much cooler too. Nice to see Apple improving older processors now that they keep a few generations of product active in the pipeline.

Hello. Why do you find it disappointing?

Yea RetinaPad, makes iPhone apps look smooth on the iPad. I know it's not true retna display but it works.
