Ridiculously big phones

I'd also at the 5s has got to be in the running.

5S or Z3 Compact would be my choices if I was subject to the original requirements.
 
Yeah the 5S was on my original list, I dunno really if I'm thinking too much about it. It doesn't seem like its that old in reality and I always did like the form factor.

I like a phone I can wrap my hand around and still do most things one handed that isn't too bulky with a lightweight protective case such as the incipio feather.
 
I think the 2014 Motorola X is a pretty nice phone and it's $150 cheaper than iPhone 6. I love the feel of the galaxy alpha and I personally like the design better than the iPhone. Z3 compact is also very nice, fast with excellent battery life. But those last 2 phones are not on Verizon.
It's funny that I'm saying this but come next year Android will have better smaller phones than Apple. Apple is too slow to make changes. All you really need is a 720p to 1080p display in a body smaller than iPhone 6 with the latest hardware including removable battery and sd card slot. I see Samsung alpha 2 doing this. Samsung could have 3 flagships covering all sizes.

Not really that's why I went Micro Four Thirds... If I need a good camera I've always got one with me.

IMO the 5S is still the best thing out there if you're set on full one-handed operation. From an internal perspective there is very little change from the 5S to the 6 (SoC performance appears similar, same RAM, only slightly larger battery in the 6, camera seems to be extremely close).

I've been extremely happy with mine as far as performance, I really like the design, and it is 100% usable one-handed. It's fast, light, fits in any pocket, really no complaints unless you want a larger display or you prefer Android. Mine has proved extremely durable as well, though that's really a YMMV point; My phone has survived numerous drops, yours may shatter on the first.
 
Another possibility that just occurred to me is the Moto G. While perhaps not in the same league as flagship phones, it has a reputation as an excellent compact phone for its price with great battery life.

That's OK, I lost interest the first time I saw someone trying to hold a galaxy note to their ear also and I thought to myself what the hell are you even doing? Is this a comedy skit that thing is as big as your head.
 
iPhone 5S/6, Moto G (either version, get the older one if you want LTE), any of the Android phones with "mini" in the name, etc.

I felt the same when bluetooth ear pieces were first coming out before it was popular. It was weird as I thought some people were talking to themselves. Nowadays it's normal. But I didn't think of them as idiots. You shouldn't refer to others as idiots just cause you're stubborn in adapting to new technology trends.

So people are idiots for adapting to new tech? No it isn't ridiculous, it's normal place to see Notes.

It's not my fault that you're stuck in 2010 in terms of technology. Even Apple finally realized bigger is better. I agree that there should be size options for everyone, but no need to criticize others that have a different opinion from yours.
 
I was seriously considering the 6 but I'm just not 100% into it.

I initially had a Note 3 when I stumbled upon a 5c at work. It caught my eye and I fell in love.

Fast forward to today and I'm still not ready to start going back up.

I think that's okay. Hopefully Apple won't completely eliminate 4' devices...

I think I look funny using my Note 3 as a phone. Almost dropped it a lot when trying to use it with my shoulder (Can't use most BT headsets). =(

I love this phone though and use it as my MP3, tablet, and video player.
 
I'm not destroying my own argument, I posted one picture to exaggerate the point...


  • As I have said previous I have no interest in a tablet until there is one that is stable and runs either Windows or OS X natively.
  • The Surface Pro 3 is three quarters of the way there to something I'd use every day and is on my "look into" list for my next update next year. If I can run lightroom, and photoshop at a reasonable pace and it ticks all the boxes, stability and usability wise it will be a serious contender for my next tablet device.
  • I've tried the tablet experience and Lite apps, they don't suit my workflow so I have no interest in them.
  • I'm not a girly man here I don't consider my 13" MacBook Pro too much of a chore to carry around either.
  • I have no need or interest in an oversized novelty phone.
  • I can push all of my notifications over to my MacBook Pro if I need to do something on a bigger screen.

All of that is fine, until you start to insult phablet users. You want a small phone? GREAT! Options are awesome, but the problem here is your idea that phablet users are somehow stupid for their choice in phone is annoying.


Also ever considered the fact that people want small and thin rMBP's because it's good for them? It isn't about being "weak' or "girly" it's about not killing your back when you have to carry a **** tonne of stuff in your bag for college anyway( you of course decide to generalise again)

I run a classic MacBook Pro and can lift more than 2.5kg :p I've never found an appropriate tablet replacement for Microsoft Office much less anything else that conforms to actually writing essays and reports at a university level let alone taking notes. I have no issues in setting up a hotspot if I need more access.

These tablet devices that can't run a real OS have no interest to me what so ever. I write a lot at university being a History/International Relations double major with an English minor, so lets just say these tablet devices don't cut the mustard.

Yeah I agree with this. I don't see a tablet as a productivity device like my MBP. Can I use my tablet for productivity? Sure. Do I want to? Hell no.

That's why my tablet is only used for entertainment and it sometimes doesn't see the charger for weeks..

There are quite a few journalists out there that only use an iPad and BT keyboard combo to write their weekly columns (@ihnatko does for sure). I guarantee they write more than you do on average weekly.

There are very few things an iPad can't do or it isn't good at doing but writing isn't one of them.

Now, to your main question, I'd go with the 5S if you don't want to go Android/Win. It's still fairly easy to use one handed, though reaching the top corners gets a bit squirrelly for me.
