Right on!

I've lived in MI my whole life. Glad to see I'm not alone :)

lol

I can't speak for every one in Michigan, but I certaintly don't. To me, the phrase "midwest" would mean not the west coast, not the middle of the country, but somewhere in the middle between the two - I'd consider a place like Wyoming or Colorado the "midwest."

Michigan is much more "east" than "west." I don't see how it got associated with any kind of "west."

Here is how I see the country haha (low quality chop):

Dude, where's the south!?@?@?

I can see it now, "so you're from the midwest? Old midwest, or new midwest?".

While we're at can we outlaw calling anywhere a "Tri State area"? There seem to be more of these than you can shake a stick at.

hahah. great point! tri state area is so vague, and depending on who you ask, can count any number of states. even in new york/new jersey it could be any combo of nearby states.
crazy people

13.89 inches of rain officially in DC (i think for the whole month, though most or all of that was in the last 3.5 days).

apparently that's 1/3 of the normal YEARLY rainfall here!!

that said, on the news, all the various talk of disasters and the city being "in ruins" really seems fairly pale in comparison to new orleans last year (and still)... don't get me wrong, the rain has messed up a lot of peoples' lives (only minor flooding in the basement for my house), but there's some dramatic phrasing going on that really should be reserved for the worst of situations.

sunny today! too bad i f'd up my ankle in my soccer game last night or i'd get to run home
