darn! my condolences from my AW4, what happened to yours, always sucks if something special related to a kid or something memerable dies.

My AW4 is dear to me because i bought it when i lived for over 11 years in Hong Kong (eventually will move back again in the future)

I feel the AW is more personal then a iphone.

I think the Series 4 is no more, but not sure? Maybe you can still find it, and get it again. I'm sorry yours died on you. It's never easy letting go something that's so close to us.

Installed beta version. Attempted to revert back. Didn't want to pair. Sent in for repair. Apple replaced and wanted to charge $400... I said nope! You can keep it.

A modern, sophisticated digital watch is one of those things that seems like it could go wrong in so many ways.

I wore my original "Series 0" for years until the battery popped the display from the case. I went for the Series 4 when it launched that winter, and I may well wear that until it dies as well.

I am handing my S4 down to my mom (with a new battery). I would consider the run it down approach, but I fear if it does fail before hand, I'll loose the activity progress for move ring and loose my streak. Also, miss other things.

Yeah, a pet peeve.

I think all your recorded health and activity data is stored on the paired iPhone, isn't it? (And your iPhone also backs up your watch regularly for eventual use with a future watch, I believe.)

The S1 I bought new chucked the rubber gasket around the crown and started chewing through battery when it couldn't find a sensor. I thought it was a software bug causing the battery drain, but no. The S3 I bought used from eBay is a little over three years old and still going strong and I lap swim a few times a week with it. I guess it's just random.

The prior data is. But new data is not generated while no watch is paired. So I will loose challenges due to not being able to complete them. Same as with other things like streaks. No watch, no streak.

It is, and even into iCloud; that is, health data survives even iPhone switches.

Mine died last week. RIP. I hate using my phone so much. Can’t wait for the 8!

You were one of the first born in 2018. I was lucky to have you. Then you malfunctioned and Apple charged me $400 for your replacement. I had to let you go. We will meet again, through the Series 8.
Nightmare timing, happening just before the announcement 🤣

My wife’s S3 had a similar fate, Apple wanted I think $159 or $169, not worth it whatever it was. And tomorrow’s her birthday so I bought her a Watch SE… keeping the package “just in case” something they announce looks like a better deal, we can return the SE within 14 days.

RIP to your wife's S3. I miss my Apple Watch. Tough decision is to go with budget watch or get Titanium/SS. Of course, pros/cons with all but the main cons with the T/SS being price.
