Your comment was about ripping to encode. You can do the same given the time on "non-PC." NOW you want to bring costs and knowledge "of computers?

Yeah, you're all over the place. This a waste of my time arguing your ridiculous comment. Enjoy your bliss.

Ever hear the expression start to finish?

It takes me less than 5mins from rip(start) to encode(finish).

In other words he started with the ripping and finished with the encoding.

that's how I read it anyway.

It's like 8 episodes from each disk... There are 3 disks and the first disk worked fine... I clicked the iPad pre set and unchecked large file size because I wanted to keep the file as small as I can but with good enough quality... So the first disk I did that each episode was anywhere from 200 to 300 mb and was really good quality and that was great... Now I put in the second disk and queue up all the episodes and when each one finishes its all jaggy, discolored and unwatchable... I don't get why... S I guess there is something I am doing wrong here?? It's a regular DVD disk each episode is about 20 min long... Thanks again for your help

He is going to need to re-encode or compress not down-rip. I'm not even sure if down-rip is a word.

well, aren't you the self-annointed grammar police?!

ever heard of the term, a portmanteau [word]? portmanteaus such as frenemy have been in use for decades. consider 'downrip' a portmanteau, of sorts...i'll leave it to you to figure out what two words it draws from.

if you have nothing to contribute to this thread besides dwelling on trivalities, can you please just go away?

Two things:

1) Leave the large file size checked. It doesnt have anything to do with the output size. It only lets hand brake know that the source file is large.

2) Try the Apple TV 2 pre set instead of the iPad.

Do both 1 and 2 together.

Also, when doing your trial and error, you don't have to encode the entire episode. On the upper right side of Hand Brake, encode a chapter or two and see if you get the desire picture results. (try doing chapter 3 and 4).

If that works, then encode the entire episode.

So I just tried your tips and it's still the same exact issue... I just don't get what it could possibly be ugh so frustrating....

When you select atv 2 pre set, the video codec (middle of screen left side) is set to h.264(x264) correct?

Slide the RF to 19 (instead of 20)

If above else fails, try a new dvd to try. You source file may not be good. You did say that disc one of your TV show was fine right?

No, just someone who tries to use the proper words so that way people who are not familiar with the subject matter don't start running around using words like "down-rip."

consider 'downrip' a portmanteau, of sorts.
According to only you then because "down-rip" doesn't return any result that pertain to media or media conversion.

I wasn't trying be rude or an a$$, just correct the wrong use of a word (if you want to call it one) so that those that don't know about media conversion didn't get confused. You on the other hand have succeed in being rude and an a$$. Have a good day.

Ok I will try that... Yes disk one worked perfectly so this is just strange will report back tmrw... Thanks!

I guess the big problem here is that buying physical media to rip is a pain. But the reason we do it is because an entore TV show season can easily be found for 10-20 but the digital iTunes equivalent runs $30-50.

It just seems backwards that digital copies that can only run on your personal account cost so much more than physical copies that can be ripped and lent out to friends and families. We're actually paying extra for more restrictions.
