^^^ BTW, the full MacUpdate Desktop could be a good updater (but of the traditional kind, based on a curated app database: no differentiated sources), but its progress has been very slow and it’s an Electron app: not very Mac-like, but it could always improve.

Bought license - ran - showed updates - tried a few - NONE WORKED!!!! WTF??!! OS 26.5 / 2025 MAC Studio

App: Version Tracker 1.0.21 (2026.6.18.0019)
macOS: Version 26.5.1 (Build 25F80)
Locale: en_US

^^^ There is a Feedback button inside the app to report bugs, etc.: definitely use it, whenever necessary. Being a 1.0 release, there are probably still lots of bugs (for example, I had 5 false positives: apps already up to date, but seen by the app as needing to be updated)…

I did use the feedback button - Jean-Paul already responded (good sign) no resolution yet.

I was looking for something else, when I stumbled upon this ‎App Update Monitor https://apps.apple.com/app/app-update-monitor/id6759650610
I had not realised that Nektony had made a separate free app for monitoring (but not applying) updates. I use App Cleaner & Uninstaller which over past 6 months has been steadily improving with update detection and application. For me, App Cleaner & Uninstaller now seems to be on a par with Updatest. So free App Update Monitor should be equally good for update detection.
