As long as car play exists, I will not buy another vehicle without it. It's baffling how these companies prefer complete user control over additional sales.
They learned this lesson from Apple.Without CarPlay or Android you are tied to a subscription service from the car company for apps. As with anything else, follow the money
It depends. Apple Maps is decent for navigation in Toronto but that’s a big city. I find it’s less reliable outside of large metro centres. However, it’s got better iOS integration than Google Maps not surprisingly, and I prefer the way Apple Maps announces turns and exits.Apple Maps is awful
For me it is more reliable and accurate than Google Maps. The interface is also far easier to read than the implementation in my Tesla- lane guidance is clear on CarPlay. Not so on google maps in the Tesla.Apple Maps is awful
It's really just an App to their native system, so why not just let people access it?Why not just offer a choice when building to order?
Have you used it since 2012?Apple Maps is awful
And that will be the downfall of the company. I can bet you that will happen in next few years.
And I will double down on my opinion that Rivian vehicles look like hot garbage from a design perspective. If someone gifted me one, I would sell it immediately.
Right!? And I think Dyson knocks it out of the park on their vacuum designs. I can't say much for their headphones though. They should stick to what they are good at.I can't stand those headlights.
They look like the "Dyson vacuums company" designed them or something.
Why not just offer a choice when building to order?
True. If they manage to offer something decent.Rivian wants their software to be perfectly integrated with their hardware. They are no different from Apple in that regard.
Why let the phone people tell you what Car UX should be like?
I applaud him for his conviction. I'll never buy his car because of it - but at least he recognizes it.
As a very related note: in 2018 the Honda Odyssey supported CarPlay, while Toyota's Sienna didn't. It was such a HUGE swing in sales that Toyota issued the next year model (and a back-end update for existing 2018's) to ONLY do CarPlay. They had so many people come in and say - ok, these two are pretty similar, so if no carplay, i don't want it.
And that's TOYOTA. I'm glad he's confident in his product.
Yeah, CarPlay’s more for Camry, Civic, and Accord prices… not Rivian.I have little interest in CarPlay Ultra, but wireless CarPlay is a must.
That's part of the reason I bought a new 2025 Camry instead of a used older model Camry. The older models had only wired CarPlay. Mind you, used prices around here at the time were stupid high anyway.
The Dyson vacuum I was considering had a fatal flaw, which was that required you to hold down the power button for it to work. Like, WTF? Totally moronic design.Right!? And I think Dyson knocks it out of the park on their vacuum designs. I can't say much for their headphones though. They should stick to what they are good at.
