Sure, "transform" the we we use our phones in the car ... meanwhile, customer prefer CarPlay ...

I feel like no one here has ever used a Tesla / Rivian (both dont use CarPlay and offer their own software). I've used both and they are miles ahead of BMW, Honda, etc's offerings.

Ah, yes, instead of a proven technology that is minimally disruptive to the driver, let's make sure that we make everyone engage in extended conversations, which has been proven over and over again in the form of remote meetings to be much more dangerously distracting.

Stop trying to turn cars into smartphones and focus on making a good car. No automaker has pulled this off successfully and by the time your AI catches up, smartphones will already be years ahead again.

CarPlay support is literally my number one factor for buying a vehicle. No CarPlay, no buy. What an out of touch CEO.

On the latest episode of The Verge's Decoder podcast, Rivian's software chief Wassym Bensaid explained why the EV maker still refuses to offer Apple CarPlay.
In short, Bensaid said Rivian does not want CarPlay to fully take over the software experience.
"The challenge with screen mirroring solutions is that they take over every single pixel in the car," he said.
Instead, Rivian prefers to offer its own interface with "end-to-end integration."
Bensaid added that "deep AI integration into the car" will eventually make the debate over offering CarPlay in vehicles "completely obsolete." He believes that Rivian owners will be able to access the core functionality of many apps through an AI agent, rather than needing to rely on CarPlay or Android Auto.
"I really believe that the way you interact with apps which are mono-threaded, single buttons, single icons, a lot of that will be now completely reshaped into a world where it will become an agentic integration that presents itself into a wholesome user experience to the user," Bensaid explained. However, he admitted that an AI agent becoming an "alternative solution" to CarPlay apps will take time to materialize.
Already, Rivian owners are increasingly less interested in CarPlay, according to Bensaid. He said that Rivian's internal statistics showed that more than 70% of customers wanted CarPlay when their vehicles first launched around five years ago, but he said a recent survey showed that figure is apparently less than 25% now.
"With the level of features that we have shipped to customers, with the level of end-to-end integration, with the level of convenience that we are bringing, CarPlay is, or Android Auto to that extent, is no longer the topic of discussion," he said.

This reminds me of Snow Crash where everyone is a citizen of a corporation. It was meant as a satirical warning, but much like 1984 it's coming all too true.
These companies want to own you and want no competition from any other company. How many years until they actually start having a concept of something like citizenship.

I'm looking at getting a used EV within the next 6 to 12 months. I very much like the look of the Chevy Blazer EV. I will absolutely never consider actually purchasing it because it does not support CarPlay. Looks like Rivian will be added to the disallow list, though they weren't in my price range anyways.
There is too many specialized apps on my phone that will never be implemented on vehicle OEM system. CarPlay is a hard requirement.

The only time I care about CarPlay is a rental car. Dont miss it with my Tesla and sure as won't miss it with My Rivian. That said they should give buyers an option, but I dont think this is an issuer most Tesla or Rivian buyers.

CarPlay wasn’t optimised to my cars infotainment screens and had quite a smaller aspect ratio, so I didn’t use it. Once the 2-3 year inclusion of sat nav map upgrades expired however, I exclusively used CP.
I’m guessing statistics involved might include folks refusing paying yearly subscription prices to car manufacturers and moving to CarPlay instead once things expire.

Also a question for people, who use the navigation in the car, not CarPlay. How do you plan for trips? Personally I set up favourites in Apple Maps on a computer and then just click the stuff when in the car. How does that work in a Tesla, do you have to manually reenter everything?

Now my other car..... Yeah Carplay is great because GM's android auto system SUCKS.

It seems very strange to me that Rivian, who have never been on a firm financial footing, really want this to be a hill to die on. It’s so easily fixed and costs nothing and would only help sway people over.
However, I do think the fact that Tesla does not offer CarPlay, makes worse vehicles, and somehow manages to have some of the best selling vehicles, does validate their argument.
Personally I use CarPlay only rarely, every few months only. And when I do, it’s because I need directions, and these cars have built in navigation anyway.

Have this guy even tried to use the damn thing himself?
On my rental Silverado, the CarPlay only used about 60 to 70 percent of the infotainment screen and the right side can still be customized.
He can keep smoking whatever he is smoking. 🙄

I had a Tesla and couldn't stand the lack of CarPlay (the interface was miserable in my personal opinion), so I sold it and bought a modern Civic. Love the Civic with CarPlay. Will never buy a car without it again.

You can forward the address to the Tesla through Apple Maps. Though believe it is phone/iPad only as the tesla app needs to be on the device you're using to send the address.
No kidding. The people who want CarPlay bought something else and gave up on your brand …
