Finally got the rMB ! Mine's the SG, but Gold looks surprisingly good, I liked it much more that I expected. I decided to wait until I move in about 2 months to get the iMac, if there are going to be updates I'd rather wait.

I mean, come on. Those are unfair levels of sexiness.

I mean.
Come on.

Edit: Shared the picture with a friend (hope you don't mind). She said "eyegasmic". I couldn't do anything but nod.

Thanks man, share away. I posted a few more pics on the "Post pics of your rMB in the wild" I'm really very happy with it. can't wait to move to complete my dream combo with the 5K.

When I was at the apple store getting my rMB I was real stuck between gold and silver. In the end I went for silver because if I do use the rMB somewhere like in a meeting etc I thought it would look more 'business' like. Both are great, even SG but for me it took third place. I do have a SG iPhone though... and for the phone it was my favorite lol

I sold my 15 Retina MBP (2.7 i7, 16G Ram) and will receive my rMB (1.2/512) on Monday. I'm thinking of getting a 5K iMac and have a desktop for intense work and thee rMB for portability.
I think that's exactly the type of usage that apple designed the rMB for. I think is a good idea.

Same setup here, both ordered in the first minutes of release. Can't fault either of them. I don't understand those complaining that the rMB is underpowered. It runs beautifully even when I ask a lot of it, working remotely or similar. No desire for new computer equipment here for a good while... :)

I'm seriously considering making a move like this. But since I can hold out a bit longer I'm wondering if the second or third rMB will be powerful enough to be my only machine and there will be a 5K Apple display that'll do the trick.

Been a while. You still liking your setup?
For what I do, the setup works. The Dell display has a annoying tendency to need a reboot (pull the power plug, reinsert) when I try to wakeup the Mac. It also is nowhere near as an attractive piece as an iMac. I still ponder moving to a iMac/rMB setup, but for now this works.

Well after seeing all the happiness in this thread, I'm contemplating that myself. I for one actually LOVE the keyboard on the new rMB. It's like an iPad with a keyboard for me. So that would be somewhat useful. I can always MS RDP into the iMac to do work, but I don't know :(

Me too. However, I do like to do some gaming every now and again and generally Macs aren't as good for that since optimization usually occurs with Windows in mind, so I will probably stick to my rMB/PC combo.

You have an iPhone/iPad too? I really want to do this too, but having a hard time reconciling it. No iPhoto library on PC, no iMessages, etc.

Overall I love PC as I can do all my work on it and Windows 10 has been awesome. It's just that ecosystem thing that bothers me. I've always been an all or nothing person.

iPhone 6+, iPad Air 2 and my newest addition of the 12" MacBook to replace my late 2013 13" MacBook Pro with Retina. I also have an old iPod Classic and the 5th(?) gen iPod Touch laying around somewhere as well, haha.

For me, the PC desktop part works mainly because I don't need total integration with my devices. Yes, it's nice that stuff ties in closely and I do like how seamless iCloud syncing can make things. However, I'm really not much of a photographer (don't take many photos in general) so I've never really used iPhoto and my friends/colleagues don't usually use iMessage that much. The people I need to stay in touch with use all varieties of phones like Samsung, Huawei, LG, HTC, etc. so we end up using a third-party messaging system called WeChat (similar to WhatsApp) so the need for iMessage on a desktop is very low. If I do need it, I still have it available on three devices that I will have with me at the same time that I am at my desktop.

I wouldn't say my set-up would work for everyone, so maybe you will want to give more thought to going down the iMac route unless you have something that you absolutely can only do on Windows; even then, you still have the option to do Bootcamp or Parallels. The only case where I would definitely say get a PC over a Mac is if you do gaming, which is a fairly big hobby I have. I generally don't mind the "Apple tax" because of the superior build quality and all that, but in this particularly case I was definitely getting more for less. Sorry if I made your decision even harder!:p

Yeah, I'm opposite. While not a photographer, I'm immersed into Apple's ecosystem.

Well I work in virtual machines anyway, so running Parallels is normal. I do game, but the only game I like and play is Heroes of The Storm. But the gfx requirements on that one don't exactly require a PC; although playing it on a PC is definitely more pleasurable. But Blizzard committed to getting some games on Mac that use the new metal. I don't see why HoTS wouldn't be one of those.

All in all, I enjoy PC in the VM, but love the Mac too. I guess to have the best of all worlds, stick to either rMBP or iMac. So you didn't complicate the decision too much :) Still iMac vs tricked out rMBP + TB display

Blizzard generally has been pretty good about making sure its games come to Windows and Mac. I remember playing Starcraft II on one of my older cMBPs and it worked fairly well, though it got really hot and had the fans revving super high during that time. Had pretty good memories of playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown on that machine as well, haha. I only hooked up my desktop again yesterday after it had been mothballed for around a year so I just tried out HotS last night and it is a ton of fun.:D

Depends if you want just "one machine to rule them all" I guess, lol, which would mean a fully-decked rMBP with a TB display would probably be the best route since you still have a good computer when you're in the office, but it'd probably be fairly difficult to take an iMac with you out into the field.:p

With the 15 I always felt like it was too heavy to carry around but definitely feel like I might need more power than the rMB can offer. I'm an architect and sometimes have to do some rending work and drawing on my computer, but not all the time.

Sugestions and opinions?
This is what I'm doing. Going to buy a Skylake iMac retina this winter!

This is my exact setup! Recently sold my maxed out 2013 15-inch rMBP and iPad Air 2 to pick up the rMB and 5K iMac.

I know Apple is going to be releasing the new 5K iMacs in a few months but I was able to get mine for $1800 thanks to a sale going on at Best Buy paired with the student discount and 10% off coupon. Loving my setup :D
