rMB noticeably slow.

Good points, going to try it out. Demo at store wasn't really conducive of good testing, plus the forum seems to overall be pleased. Movers coupon and the 512gb space gray, $1469 shipped with some discounts. We'll see on Tuesday how well I like this.

At a minimum, reboot the display, and check any settings you're aware of that could obviously affect performance.

I noticed lag too, which makes me hesitant. However, I'm wonder if it an OS X 10.10.2 issue, as there were other issues and bad performance on the new rMBP.

I'm going back in two weeks with hopes that they will have 10.10.3 installed before I make my final decision.

10.10.2 was miserable for the 10 minutes I ran it. Things were straight not loading, beachballs all the time, etc. It was pretty crazy how much of a difference 10.10.3 made.

I've also turned off transparency in the accessibility settings and that's helped quite a bit on the UI lag and animation front. It was never a feature I quite cared about, and I hardly notice that it's gone compared to my other macs.

Don't know if you are a clinician or on the developer side. You are the first person have encountered on this site who uses EPIC. I am a hospitalist nurse practitioner and have been using it via a Citrix VPN.

Currently using a 2011 non-Retina MBP with 4 Gig ram, 128 Gig SSD and as mentioned in some earlier posts, running out of space. Was thinking of purchasing the 1.3/512 rMB later in the year (when can afford), partitioning off 100 Gs of the drive for Windows to run EPIC and to run our charge capture software. The majority of the SSD would be for my personal use, photos, videos, email, web browsing.

Am able to run EPIC fine without a separate partition, since I do not use a mouse, have to expand the page to reach the scroll bars and drop downs. Have also thought of downloading Haiku, but not all facilities use it and have some parts of it disabled such as actually placing orders and such.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I am Cache Systems Manager and Developer. Citrix access to Hyperspace is fine. You may have issues with the browser you use depending on setup. If you did run a windows VM on this machine I strongly suggest you use Fusion and not parallels as the later is much more resources intensive. Other than that you would be fine to run Epic and the portability of the new rMB is a huge plus not to mention this keyboard is so butter smooth!

My observation was that it felt laggy for the first day or so, but once everything had settled down (spotlight and file vault and dropbox), it's felt good ever since. And that's going back and forth between it and a 4GHz riMac, so it's not like I'm just acclimating.

EPIC follow-up

Have been accessing Citrix from Safari. I was advised to install (?) Boot Camp instead of Parallels. What is Fusion?

So, is CareConnect a newer version of Hyperspace? My facility is going live with EPIC in August transitioning from McKesson, the rest of the system's hospitals have been on EPIC for some time.

Sorry for so many questions, appreciate your advice and thanks! Debi

This may sound funny, but I actually did not notice all the start-up maintenance on my rMB. I may not have been very attentive, because the first 24 hours after installing 10.10 on my rMBP were a real PITA, and I definitely noticed. Constant CPU use, high temps and frequent high fan speeds, lousy battery life. It took only about a day to get back to normal.

Coming from a 2013 rmbp and I haven't noticed a difference at all. I wiped the disk right away and installed 10.10.3. and have had no problems. I love it.

Feels fine to me and I have the base model. Would love to know what machines people who are complaining about the performance are normally using. I have a Mac Pro as well and even coming from that I have no complaints.

I think that the worst culprits were dropbox and photos. Around 60GB from dropbox and 30GB from photos. Right now, in basic web browsing and Facebook/tweetbot use, the CPU utilization is near idle and core temperatures are below 40C. And that's sitting on the couch cushion. (Using the riMac as a TV right now.)

Boot camp is fine, Fuusion is a type of bootcamp that allows you to run it within OSX as a separate window or you can integrate it all and run OSX and windows at the same time. It is convenience, boot camp is an either or OS proposition. I prefer OSX and Fusion allows that, but in my role I stay away from Windows. I too use citrix to access both Hyperspace and Reflections and it works great on the new rMB. Parrallels is similar to Fusion but uses more cpu and memory and may degrade your osx performance, especially on the new macbook. CareConnect I believe is a mobile type of presentation layer like Hyperspace. You can access Epic however youu are advised to do so. Hope this helps.

HI again, will look into Fusion, this is very helpful. I find it interesting that a lot of websites are going the way of appearing and functioning like iOS apps.

Do you know of an EPIC user group for folks that primarely use Macs off-site? Not sure how to contact you via email, would love to talk more about this. Debi

When I first tried the MacBook on 10.10.2 it was fairly easy to induce lag, today visiting the local Apple Store the MacBook`s on display had been updated to 10.10.3 with all additional software installed. I found the MacBook to be very fluid with no noticeable lag even with multiple Space`s and fullscreen application running. I dare say that you could force the system to lag, equally the MacBook is not designed for heavy lifting.

Only downside no Store stock until 24th

I KNEW IT!

Thank you Queen 6! My fears have been assuaged. I tried out a rMB at the Apple store last week on 10.10.2 and found noticeable UI lag when going full screen or even scrolling in Finder. An abnormal amount.

It was running 10.10.2 and I know that version had trouble with the 2015 rMBP as well. I wanted so bad to update it there, but figured Apple store employees would tackle me to the ground. It actually gave me the notification that an update was available.

So it was much better? Ooooo, I don't think I'll be able to resist.

Would have liked more time, however everything did appear to be much smoother. I dare say Reducing Transparency will also help significantly when the MacBook is under load. When I am working in the field I generally turn off the "eyecandy" as I want to maximise the run time on battery, and generally get 10 hours out of my 2014 2.8Ghz 13" Retina, all credit to Apple, nothing else comes close with this level of processing power :apple:

Want to go back and try the same again at 1440x900, but not sure if I have the time...

Exactly. File Vault in particular is CPU-intensive, so setting it up really slows it down since unlike MacBook Airs or Pros with fans, it can't stay in Turbo Boost mode as long. Once it settles down into a "normal" pattern it's fine. That's been my experience, as well.

Ooh, I really hope you do –*I'd be very interested to hear the results, as I'm certainly not planning on running mine at 1280…

Think I should have time, as my travel plans have pushed a little. 1400x900 is good I will buy one, subject to availability. Certainly 1280x800 is not an option for me, too small a workspace...
