Get an alienware best for gaming

Hell no don't go close the AW's. Get yourself a Sager or Clevo or a rebranded sager/clevo. Twice the bang for the buck, and most components are upgradeable.

The Sager NP9150-S with Nvidia GTX 680 and 16 gigs of ram. You could upgrade the Screen and still be money in.

Here is a review with lots of information.

Alienware is still a good brand with a good rep.

Can you upgrade the GPU on the ASUS? If not the Alienware is the better choice because you can upgrade the laptop rather than throwing it away and buying a completely new laptop.

Yes you can upgrade the GPU in the ASUS.

There are many gaming systems out there that are better and cheaper than the rMBP.

A few months ago, I picked up an Asus gaming laptop for about $1200 and it had the same specs as high end MacBook Pro. Spent another $400 on 2x SSDs and 16GB of RAM, now this gaming laptop is a monster compared to the MacBook Pro. Sure it's 3-inches thick and weighs 10 lbs, but it's still portable and it never gets hot (nor do the fans spin up like crazy).

Yeah and I guess another plus point is that everything's not soldered or glued down in it either?

That's only half true. While the GPUs are technically upgradable, in most of its products, the MXM slot is propriety, so you would have no choice but to use another Asus card. Dell/Alienware and Sager/Clevo notebooks can swap GPUs, sometimes requiring just a vBIOS flash to do it.
