Too bad for me because I will not be able to hear creaking or popping sound from my 2 weeks old rMBP..WHY? Cuz I am hearing impaired. I doubt Apple store will not tell me the truth if I ask them for check out? :apple:

Hopefully the fix for yours was a simple one! I tried tightening the screws differently and had no luck as my cracking/popping sound was coming from around the right palm rest rather than along the edge. Check on those screws often though, my buddy has lost some of his due to them backing out...seems like they walk easily on these newer machines.

I think my cracking/popping noise was due to the battery not being glued in correctly. Maybe too little glue? I took mine in to the Genius Bar 4 times before a tech acknowledged that the sound was there. Case had been tightened/loosened/reseated/etc all the other times. Finally they said they would replace the top case and the bottom case for good measure. Got the laptop back, and it feels more solid than before with no noise. The reason why I think it was the battery is because the new top case comes with a new battery glued to it as 1 part (also includes the keyboard apparently).

Hope this info helps someone. Be persistent, get them to replace the top case. $2000 gives you the right. If they're gonna brag about manufacturing processes and precision/perfection...then we get to demand it when we pay for it.

Mine got better first time around, then it started acting weird again (temp. differences because of winter/room?) second time i think they missed it because they re-aligned my hinges.. unfortunately I dont have time to take it to a genius for a third time soon but if it's not fixed when I go I will be pissed.. first the price drop out of nowhere and now this.

Bought the iFixit tool and while i've tried loosening/tightening the screws it has not helped one bit, still sounds like an ASUS/Acer. One thing i noticed though when i opened it up was that one of the four magnets isn't glued correctly so when you lift up the bottom plate the magnet sticks to it and leaves it's original place. lol.

Edit: added picture (courtesy of iFixit) with arrows to what magnets im referring to

I brought my 2012 15" Retina MacBook Pro in twice to the Apple Store for creaking case. That didn't resolve the issue. So I bought a pentalobe screwdriver from ifixit and just took off the cover and cleared out the dust not really finding out what causes the creaking sounds. But after I put the cover back on the creaking sounds reduced almost completely. I recommend anyone who has a new MacBook to get a pentalobe screwdriver if you have a creaking case and try removing the cover yourself. It's also useful to clear out the dust that builds up on the fans.

Edit: I don't recommend removing the screws yourself because you could easily strip the screws.

i had a clicking noise from the bottom case right around where the locks are took it to service for a failed apple hardware test and the noise. The noise he says were the locks were not fit proper. cant tell if it solved the issue its still with them. Apple hardware test keeps failing but their ast test passes strange hes even telling me to take my lappy back.
