Won a auction on ebay yesterday for a 15" MBPr at a great price. Got this email from the seller this morning after asking for the serial no and saying i would pay today. Would you do it?

Hello, I'm having issues with my paypal account? They think its going to be 3-5 working days for them to fix the issue. If you would like I'm happy to do a bank transfer/ deposit ( I'm with nab or westpac) to ensure a quick speedy process? However if you do not wish to continue with the buy that's ok too.

Walk away and report to eBay. It's a scam.

That has scam written all over it. Stay away and report it to eBay. Never do bank/wire transfers to people you don't know/trust.

If you've verified there is nothing wrong with your PayPal account, I'd walk away. There are too many scams on eBay to risk it.
 
Yep, I agree with every one else, has scam written all over it. Walk away. I suggest you contact eBay, I am sure they will agree.
 
Do not wire transfer any money, don't do it, once you send that money it is gone with no way to recover it. It's a bad bad idea.

This seller is also recommending to cancel the auction altogether if you can't wire the money. That's a bad sign, too.
 
Yeah, bummer though, there was 32 bids and i came in at the end and won it $1575 AUD. $2499 from Apple
I have asked again for the serial no.

Just went to paypal to pay to see what would happen and got this message.

If you encounter this message more than once, please contact PayPal customer support for further assistance.

I'd definitely recommend buying directly from Apple or a reputable reseller. Also give the B and H site a visit....They have really good open box prices.

how does your mini look since you have a retina screen?
 
EBAY/Craiglist Scams

I had the same question a year ago. DO NOT DO IT.
in my case, it was the same story, but he wanted to use his escrow company.
I received and email, to send the money and they would hold it until I o.k. that the received equipment was valid.

I searched the Escrow company which was in england, I found the number and called them. They did not exist. Everything was fake.

When I asked the Seller "What'sthe Deal" He never responded to five emails.

Don't let your lust get in the way of common sense.

I dont know if they'd deliver outside of the U.S. worth a check though!

As far as the Retina vs my mini screen, you of course know who wins that battle. But to be honest it doesn't really bother me to much, I use my mini for mostly work and apps like Numbers and what not, and not a whole lot of web searching and stuff.

However I will deff be grabbing an ipad mini retina when it releases.
 
Just got a return email (below) from seller re the serial no. It is for a iphone 4?

5K201959A4T. They have had a technical glitch opening my account. I've been in constant communication with them! I can assure you I'm the read deal here. I'm just a poor UNi student trying to save for a holiday haha! I'm not some scammer, trust me I've heard stories so I know what your imagining! Anyways let me know?

I have asked him to send me the MacBook on Monday and I will transfer into his bank acc when I Have it. Told him he could trust me.

After reading all the problems with the 15" thinking I may just get a base 13" now and see what Haswell has to offer. Apple will give me 5% buss discount and can claim back 10% tax so would be about $1420 AUD. least I can send it back if I don't like it.

If its any consolation to ya I just picked up a 2012 rMBP a few weeks ago and absolutely love it! Hey the way I see it is like this...

I have this machine now and am really enjoying it at this moment, when Apple releases they're next iteration of the retinas I'll go to Apple and give it a whirl! If the newer machines blow my mind, I'll buy it and just put this one I have now up for sale and call it a day. I know plenty of people that are always asking if I have anything I'd like to sell...Thats how good I keep my Gadgets! Worse case scenario is that I'll be out a few hundred bucks for the difference of the new one. I've spent a few hundred bucks on way worse things in my life...lol!

If the newer versions don't blow me away, I'll keep it moving with I have until something does...Live for the moment man, ya never know what tomorrow will bring...
 
If his paypal account is going to be working in 3-5 days like he says, then why not just wait until then to do the transaction?

I doubt that he would want to send you the MBP without payment even if everything is perfectly legitimate.
