And what about rogers' crappy digital music store?

I have never ever had a cellphone. I have no idea about "plans" and that kinda crap that my friends are always complaining. One friend has Fido (Rogers) and he is very happy with it.

As Rogers is one of those things that Canadians love to hate... such as hogtown. oh well

Grrr! another "please play again"

If no rogers then??? what 2009 and Canadian CDMA versions???

Blah... need more competition here in Canada, give Rogers and the ol' boys a reason to try to give customers the best

I have to commment regarding the complaint that Apple iTunes music store shafts Canadians due to lack of content. This has 0 to do with Apple. It has even less to do with technology. People who post stuff should take the time to do a little research before posting a complaing about something. In canada we have a little known organization known as the CRTC. They regulate broadcasting of radio/television in Canada. Now what does that have to do with internet? Well since the media in question is music/television/movies they actually can limit things from being sold or made available to canadians. This is why alot of online broadcasting like NBC and other stations that put full episodes of shows are IP bannded from canada. One of the goals of the CRTC is to dictate Canadian content percentages of all media. IE if a channel wants to broadcast in Canada it is required to play X% of its broadcast being Canadian content. Alot of companies are not willing to play that game so they do not get permission to operate. The other part of the reason why iTunes Canada has less content it licensing agreements with the companies themselves. That means Apple must negotiate with each company whose media they want to distribute and make a deal that is not only acceptable between those parties but is also legal in Canada and permitted by the CRTC.

I feel bad for you guys, seriously - I've heard a lot of bad things about Rogers.

Hopefully Apple will think of something for you guys. :(

Rogers recently launched an ad campaign claiming to have the clearest and most reliable network in Canada. If Rogers is going to start outright lying to customers, why not all claim to be getting the iPhone.

I especially hate the ad where the smarmy Rogers guy is in a stainless STEEL elevator with a guy using a Competing Operator's phone, and has zero coverage problems while the other guy can't here a thing.

Too bad a steel box is a damn Faraday cage and the penetration of EM radiation through it doesn't get drastically better if you switch from CDMA to GSM (and I'm something of a GSM fanboy). "Fewest dropped calls" is an analog-era holdover that's completely meaningless. Who the heck gets dropped calls anymore?

It's just as bad as the Future Shop ads where they lie about "four simple steps" you can take when your hard drive crashes, which will "get you all your data back in no time", and imply that if you just show up at Future Shop, they'll tell you what those steps are. In reality, of course, you get clueless goobers trying to sell you extended warranties and $25 USB cables who wouldn't know a hard drive platter from an MO disk.

An elevator isn't a perfect Faraday cage, phones can still work in them. Though the existing signal must be really strong - there's a lot of signal loss!

Regarding who gets dropped calls - Ummm, any of us who actually use their phone! Both GSM and CDMA systems drop calls all the time. Driving through a dip in the road that puts you in the shadow of the signal. Random network glitches. Just because dropped calls. You name it, calls drop. Around here Alltel (CDMA) seems to have the fewest, followed by Chinook (GSM) then Verizon (CDMA) as a distant third.
