I was never really interested in Roku. My ATV serves me perfectly fine. But I did pick up a Chromecast for the living room about a month ago which has been getting a lot of use for Netflix and HBO Go.

I have profiles on my Roku 3 netflix app.

But in other news - on what planet is this headline accurate. Roku, for YEARS has been competing with Apple TV (and at lower price points). Why does this article make it sound like this new (updated) model is magically different?

roku 3 is the only player that supports profiles. has since it came out. roku is dragging their feet in updating the player for older units to prevent sales erosion of the 3 model

Edit: wait... from the Roku site, it appears that you can actually send video to the tv directly from your smartphone netflix/youtube app (a la airplay/chromecast). This would actually make this a pretty killer device IMO, especially if this casting function works more similar to chrome cast.

I can already do this on my roku 3 for both netflix and YouTube.

Got mine in today. So far it does not play well with my parents wifi. It can't connect to it. So got home and it works on my network. Looks like my parents need to update their router. They only wanted Netflix so probably going to give them a one of my AppleTVs and see if it works on their network.

If anyone is wondering Netflix app in it does support profiles.

Also Netflix goes to next episode in series like PS3 does. I love that on my PS3.

To bad roku is awful. The lag and faulty ethernet made me loose support for Roku, I will stick with ATV and airplay.

I've got 3 of them and never had any issues, perhaps your's was faulty?

I wonder if you would "loose" support for you Apple TV is it became faulty too.

I hope it has improved significantly since I had it, because that was simply an awful box, I purchased another Apple TV and put it in my living room in the Rokus place.

My parents have the same roku model, same lag and same god awful connection :) perhaps i am unlucky. But for every channel on Roku there is an equivalent better ipad/iphone app that can AirPlay no problem so I suppose I stick with what works for me.
