Yeah that was another waste of our time.
To give people an idea of how absurd it is to bring the Cortex A8: the iPhone
4 had a Cortex A8-derived processor, the Apple A4.
The slowest iPhone in the Geekbench 5 chart is the iPhone
5s, scoring 259. In Geekbench 3,
it scores 1,414, compared to an iPhone 4, which scores 206. So, already, the 5s is 6.9 times as fast as the 4 (given that the 4 was single-core, the difference is even starker once you get into multiple cores). But the iPhone 11 scores 1,324 in Geekbench 5, which is 5.1 times as much as the 5s.
Now, those two benchmarks aren't quite the same. But still, roughly speaking, a 2019 iPhone 11 is about
35 times as fast as an iPhone 4. Or, to put it more simply:
last year's Apple A13 chip is 35 times as fast as the Cortex A8 brought up above. And
this year's Apple A14 is coming in just a few weeks!
