You should switch to decaf, @pachyderm.

Decaf runs the risk of missing much of the point of coffee, which is caffeine.

Recently, an Italian colleague made me some decaf Italian coffee with a Bialetti moka coffee pot with the express aspiration that I would accept her intention that it "was just as good as real coffee" and hoping that I "couldn't tell the difference".

It was not "just as good as real coffee" and, to her surprise, yes, I "could all the difference."

It tasted pleasant enough, but lacked that "je ne sais quoi" - actually, I do know exactly - je sais, je sais, je sais - it lacked the bite and heft and wonderful lift of caffeine.

This whole thread is rather reminiscent of the old "dressing gown (or bathrobe) on back of door" which - when in that drowsy and blinkered and sometimes bewildered state between sleep and wakefulness - one imagines can be any number of things.

I hope you'll forgive me if I seem a little edgy at work today. I psyched myself out this morning by accident. I woke up at 3:30 and either my wife's or the dog's stomach made a noise like the aliens from the movie Signs and I couldn't get that out of my head. Then I took the dog out around 4:00 and something scared her too! Probably one of those aliens from the movie Signs. Then when I got in the shower a few minutes later something knocked the soap off the rack, probably one of those aliens from the movie Signs... So, Like I said, I hope you'll forgive me if I seem a little edgy today at work...

P.S. Yes, the water killed the aliens from Signs. But this is the same effect that you have when you are in the ocean and everything that touches you is a shark... 😉 😉
