Someone like you might not be able to distinct between the form factors of lets say the iPad1 and the iPad3 and the iPad mini, but I'm pretty sure that the average user notices a big difference in feel and look.

Are you saying iPad3 was ugly (i.e. not "beautiful")? It's all the same. Obviously new iPad will be easier to use because it's lighter (although small bezel may hinder usability) but it's the same shape. Neither one of them is more beautiful than the other. Neither one of them is beautiful as such.

And then next year, you'll have to wait because of another new feature etc...

Live in the now! The new mini is an astronomical upgrade and is basically a smaller iPad Air. Touch ID isn't worth waiting a year for IMO.
I definitely don't disagree with you and usually take the same stance when advising others, but I'm not particularly in the financial situation to purchase one at this moment; nor have a particular need for one.

Back in college, I had used my iPad everyday for taking notes, studying, annotating PDFs, reading textbooks, etc. But now that I've graduated, it's hard to justify such a purchase, when my MBA and iPhone 5S are capable of so much.

But my purchase history resonates well with you. I jumped on the iPad 2, the iPad 3, and have had every iPhone since the 3GS :p

"Apple’s iPad Air will be available beginning on November 1, while the Retina mini will come later in the month. Both tablets feature a 64-bit A7 processor, Retina screens, and ultra-thin designs. "

Look like Apple wants to sell the iPad5 first to see if there are takers. Then after a couple of weeks Apple will release the Mini 2! Great strategy for the one two punch.

I will get the Mini2 between the two iPads but I was discourage because no M7 and no 802.11 ac. Might wait till the next version since I want the Wi-Fi to be state of the art.

The new mini does have an M7.

You're weird. Why would one have to be ugly for the other to be beautiful?

And just because you personally don't find them beautiful (which is no surprise), that doesn't mean that others have a similar impression.

It might surprise you, but the small bezel of the mini was a non-issue so if the iPad Air handles it the same way, it's great. A small bezel doesn't need to be a problem at all, no matter what other tablet manufacturers try telling you.

Edit: In your opinion, what is the reason for the Verge people to write something like that?

Fair enough.

I really wanted a mini last year but had just bought the iPhone 5 so was a bit low on disposable income - however now have skipped the 5s and am probably going to get the retina mini.

I have to admit that an MBA is a pretty good iPad substitute - my friend has one and it's so much lighter than my cMBP!

Haven't been on the forums today so I'm not sure if people have been bitching but My God, I cannot believe the new iPads lack touchID.

This keynote was awful! iPad Mini for $400? Are you kidding me? No one could possibly think about paying that much.

The Verge calls the iPad Air "really beautiful,"...

That's amusing. It has a brick shape (as are all other tablets). What exactly is so beautiful about it? One could not come up with a more boring shape even if he tried.

What would you prefer? A trapezium? :roll eyes:

It's built for simple aesthetic and ease of use; not the throwaway two-minute wonder SamSCUM.

No Touch ID? Now I'm gonna think twice before buying an iPhone 5S contemplating whether Apple is actually going to expand this technology anytime soon. And so are many other people.

What do you think Ipad Air 2 is for?

Apple has been trolling consumers for years. Just look at the iPad mini and its lack retina display.

Disappointed no touchID on either of the iPads. It seems that the iPhone always has the new bells and whistles and the iPad follows a year later. Happened with the retina display. iPad Air 2 Pro lol will be upgrade for me.

No big deal the lack of Touch ID.

most important is the iPAd Air is Amazing light, enough to consider getting it against the mini iPad Retina.

so most people having 100$ more will consider Size, if Size adapt their like, or if its best to save few weight and money and get exactly the same ***** on a smaller package.

No touch ID on the iPad air? What a disappointment. I was stuck between buying the iPad Air or a Gibson les Paul. This made my decision much easier now.

Gibson Les Paul here I come!

Disappointed

I was hoping for AT LEAST an IGZO display if nothing else.

Battery life is the same, screen is EXACTLY the same, it has the processor of a phone, RAM is the same, camera the same crappy 5MP back and 1.2MP front, no 802.11 ac, only 16GB base. On top of that iOS 7 is currently just a stretched out version of the iPhone version for iPad. "iPad Air" is already fully outdated before even being released. MAJOR disappointment.

BTW does anybody know why IGZO display was not included or when it will be included?

I do not know why they skipped on IGZO (or even if IGZO is better) but in general, with Apple strategy of having just one model in each class they simply can't be on the leading edge of innovation. They need high volume and new tech rarely is available in high volume. That's why they still use LCD screens in iPhone (and not OLED).

They can't get the 5s out the door due to the Touch ID, I hardly think they would suppress two more product lines until they work out the process.

How is the Air "fully outdated" before being released. I don't see any tablet with better specs than the air.
