Seriously I NEVER used dashboard even I switched to Mac after had used an iPhone. I just find it bothering and uncomfortable on a laptop or desktop computer. Believe me coating OS X like iOS is not that appealing to new users.

Dashboard has been around since Tiger (2005), way before the iPhone was released. It's fun for a while, but all I really use it for now is for an encryptor widget I have and the web clips. Apple kinda hid the Dashboard widget download page, sadly :(

I already own a Mac mini, 2 Macbook Pros, an iPad, and 2 iPhones, and numberous iPods. It's not like I don't give Apple lots of money every year.

Apple TV should be for people who only want to spend $99 to run their TV with a Mac. If I'm willing to spend $999 to run my TV with a Mac, I shouldn't get less features.

Hell, I'd even pay $99 for an OSX application that exactly replicated everything an Apple TV does (despite the fact that there's already a lot of overlap with OSX). What I do not want is yet another thing plugged into my TV.

I suspect the market for people who prefer to hook a $999 mini to their TV rather than a $99 box may be too small to justify adding and supporting this feature.

Well, what sort of a professional are you? I admit this Mountain Lion looks great for secretaries, real-estate agents, AmWay poolers, etc.

I'm going to go out on a limb, but I think x-ray doc is a radiologist. Of all doctors, radiologists rely on computers the most...by far. However, I can guarantee you (because I have used many of them), a Mac running a mainstream PACS in the US is a very, very rare sight. These programs certainly exist, but they're just not something you see in a hospital nowadays. And ML will see to the continuation of this. Therefore, I'll go out on another limb and state this professional, which he certainly is, does not use his Mac for professional uses.

In addition, Apple should take ALL the blame for the lack of TB peripherals on the market. It's not a accident that all PCs have adopted USB 3.0 while not even sniffing TB. This is likely because Apple demanded at least a 12-month duration of exclusivity for their hand in helping develop this technology. Thanks, Apple! Thanks for this useless port that will undoubtedly become popular once the PC market adopts it.

That's what I'd like to know! In the mean time Amazon is getting my eBook dollars. That way if I ever decide to go e-Ink, I can get a kindle and have my collection. Plus, I can still read on the iPad. Options are good.

eBooks really have to go DRM free at some point.

I feel kinda behind. Everyone is talking about using an iPad or Kindle for school books, and I'm still using textbooks because the books my school uses are not available in digital form.

How are people getting so many digital books? Or is it only a few people?

I'm actually more curious about the "under the hood" changes, and the little day-to-day changes. like will ML be more stable, will ML performance be better, will mission control be adjustable to more like spaces, will the Finder see any improvements (like being able to reorganize the side bar or have an address bar, or better network performance, will we see an option for "save as" to return (perhaps hold Option down to have Duplicate change to "Save as"), will we see Open GL improvements, hopefully they won't completely abandon Java support in ML. Will full screen mode be fixed so that you can have more than one app full screen when you have multiple monitors?

Don't get me wrong, they showed some really cool stuff, there's still just a lot of questions that truly affect productivity.

Call me in September when this is released. "Summer" is always late summer which is always pushed back as far as possible. September - February (leap year Feb, that is) = FOREVER.

We'll have iPad 3 and iPhone 5 with iOS 6 before we can play with this GM.

This is a sad day. This is the day when Apple took Mac out of the OS X label. In other words, this is the beginning of the death of the Mac computer. ... This is the beginning of the death of the Mac computer.

No, today is not the beginning of "the death of the Mac computer." Macs, and personal computers in general, have already started a slow death march. Macs are well-positioned to be among the last survivors. But the Cloud is going to kill the PC. You should ask yourself why you really want a personal computer. Why would you not rather have universal and uniform access to your data, and the applications to utilize it, anyplace, anytime, anywhere? Tying yourself to a lump of hardware is so 2011. ;)

Exactly. I remember when I pre-orded the original iPad with 3G and Apple said the release was in "April"... yeah, April 30th.

Well said. I too am also wondering about the little things. Assuming ML is coming in late July or Aug we don't have that long to wait.

What are all these 'performance issues' with Lion? I must be missing something!

The boot time is very slow compared to SL.

Looks amazing. Probably won't use all the new features but then that isn't a concern. So long as Logic Pro stays working then my livelihood is safe.

OSX keeps getting better :)

Well, this is all interesting stuff I suppose for some people. My concern is the delay of the Ivy Bridge MacBook Pro, now slated for September release. That seems to coincide with Mountain Lion in late summer. Gee, September and late summer are the same time!

I was about to wait for the new MBP, but if it comes with Mountain Lion, I probably won't be able to run Pro Tools on it for six months, since Avid can't keep up with Mac (or whatever it's called) operating systems.

So I think I'll buy a rad MacBookPro now and see what happens in a year when these products stabilize. 'Can't always wait for the next release, because there's always a next release. Maybe Cougar will be announced this time next year. That'll get all the young boys riled up!

Oh yeah...I love where it's headed. All in wonder integration, sounds good.

I'm sure Apple will make the best all in one device integration!

IMO, this is what will make OSX triumph beyond reach in the future.

It's ACTUALLY gonna be called Mountain Lion? I guess that makes sense, Leopard > Snow Leopard, but the whole cougar thing. anyway, this HAS to be a joke.

why would Apple release a preview of their latest OS without any fanfae in the middle of the winter, less thana year after relase?

Is the mac in the video during the airplay demo a macbook air?

Mountain Lion Extinct in Eastern US.

Michael Rubinkam, Associated Press

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Federal wildlife biologists have declared the eastern cougar to be extinct.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has concluded there are no longer any wild populations of mountain lions in the eastern United States. Researchers believe the subspecies has probably been extinct since the 1930s.

Wednesday's declaration paves the way for the eastern cougar to be removed from the endangered species list.

There have been numerous sightings of mountain lions from Maine to South Carolina. But the wildlife service contends those cougars were either escaped or released captives, or came from the West or from South America.

The agency's decision to declare the eastern cougar extinct does not affect the status of the Florida panther, another endangered wildcat.

'Mac' Extinct in OSX.

Evidence suggests otherwise. Macs run on Intel chips and Apple seems to be sticking with that.

Yeah, because what processor its going to have in it is going to make any difference... its going to be iOS X, and probably jus as locked down. Sure you will still have the ability to jump through hoops to do some of the things you enjoy now, but it would be akin to jail breaking your computer.

And even if it doesn't come to that...these are pathetic "OS" upgrades... "yeah a new notes app!" It would be like if MS updating notepad and calling it windows 8! give me a break. At least if Windows did do that they wouldn't have removed the options and control you had in windows 7.

Apple dropped Computer from their name, and not they are dropping Mac from their OS. Long Live Snow Leopard, the last great "MAC" OS.

Personally I do not like them putting iMessaging into the desktop. It is going to cause issues because how we write message from a computer is very different than from a phone and much faster. It makes communications between someone on a phone and a computer rather annoying. Anyone who has used one of the meany IM clients that bridges the gap between the 2 more than likely have noticed this frustrations in there are two different styles of writing and responding.

This post makes me think people will complain about anything. I been using google talk and aim from my desktop for years while chatting with mobile users. I have never noticed a problem at all.

I still use textbooks. There's no way I'm Gunna buy a digita
Textbook when my highschool provides the textbooks free

Lucky. Every school I've ever seen requires the students to buy the books. The textbook sellers are ripoff artists, they make new editions where they just mess up the page numbers so you have to keep updated.

how long can we use snow leopard?

Ok, i will be buying a new IMac late next year...It will have Mountain Lion installed as any new Mac comes with latest Operating system. However, i love Snow Leopard and its on my Macbook Pro. I dont want to upgrade to Lion and really i just want to keep S.L. on it. How many years into the future..if my mac keeps going, will it still function properly using SL? Or be supported.
I know some folks still use Leopard.
